I wholeheartedly agree with you about the different version of Mint. Maybe two desktop environments tops, one Cinnamon and the other - whatever at this point. The disconnectedness throughout the Linux realm produces some gems from time to time, but does not provide consistent and cohesive products because of the freedom associated with it.
Mrk, For what it's worth, my auto detected Canon wireless printer works fine from Mint20. I can see my Windows shares without using IP addresses.
That's what bothers me so much. The constant and unpredictable change. My setup remains as it, the only thing new is this or that distro, and the results vary so drastically. Mrk

Part of the problem is users themselves. Lots of folks rush out to install the latest version even though the previous one they’ve been happily using might still have years of support life left. And don’t even get me started on ‘upgrades’ v a clean install. Example: ROSA Linux is a well crafted package that looks good and doesn’t break. Due to the commercial challenges facing many companies at present there’s been a delay to the release cycle (the base system dates back to 2016). Consequently there’s an unofficial attempt via their forum to take this on and now tons of ROSA users are worried even though their system continues to update. What for? There might well be issues for anyone downloading the original iSO since the initial update will take for ever and might not complete for a variety of reasons but existing users still have a fully viable system that continues to update. I have ROSA 11 on two machines. My bank accounts have not been drained, videos play like they always did and my email continues to arrive every two minutes. Latest is not always greatest. To start with filter out the crap and ignore articles such as “24 Linux desktops you need to try”. Trust me, you don’t. Even 5 is too many. Next ignore the proliferation of distros that are nothing more than remastered originals with scary themes and funny wallpaper. Then forget anything Arch based and pick an LTS that’s been in circulation for at least a year. Job done!
I was alerted to the new version so I followed the instructions to upgrade. Since then I get an error trying to check for updates in Brave and Enpass. I tried installing them again to restore the repositories but that didn't work. Any help greatly appreciated.
