    I don't like the new Edge but I don't understand why people treat this as a forced installation. Microsoft even provided a reg key that you can use to block it - and I did on several hosts, and no problems. And if people don't know or care about reg keys, then they sure don't care what browser is installed.

    Personally, I like it slightly more than the original Edge, but I hardly use it anyway. I try and like browsers based on Chromium (Edge and Brave) but I just keep going back to Firefox.

    Anyway, that's enough OT from me.

    One reason I use the new Edge is that I can stream 4k and FHD with it.

    Good they restored it. Nobody should be hiding subdomains. Too many people don't even understand www is a subdomain and doesn't even have to be on the same web server as the non www domain. In a world where people are concerned about fraud on the internet, hiding information is not a win.

    There is also the default disabling of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 compared to Chrome.

    firefox owns such feature for a longer period now, opt-out. but for chromium-based browser this option is present since v84.

    to xxJackxx - its neither nor a win or lost - the padlock presents the secure or non-secure state of a page. what you dont know is that only the WWW is hidden, nothing else. so WW2 or W2W or SUB - in general any other subdomain than WWW - is show. there is no fraud hidden data. not stupid, wise chosen
    https://www.ghacks.net/2020/03/26/google-implements-always-show-full-url-option-in-google-chrome/

    in flags there exist no longer the option for switch to activate the "show full url" option in omnibox context menu.
    as ghacks shows you can disable or enable it, for edge (and all chromium based) its enabled by default.

    examples
    Code:
    http://www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/
    https://store.hp.com/us/en/cat/desktops
    https://www8.hp.com/de/de/home.html
    https://www.hp.com (get redirected)
    added:
    its limited to the www.domain.only, not for stacked subdomains like HP used in the past, eg
    Code:
    h200003.www.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Product.jsp
    (note: this is no longer a valid page or address on hp servers)

    the padlock shows me "not secure" which means no SSL - i dont need the preleading "https" to recognize this.

    to complete this information - copy&paste always contain the full address!

    I'm going to have to disagree with the point that I am interpreting you as making , which seems to be that by your examples it is ok to hide the "www." in "www.hp.com" as long as you display the non "www." such as "www2.", etc. As someone that configures domains for an employer that owns over 300 of them, in my experience there is nothing special about "www". Functionally it is literally the same as any other sub domain. We roll it off on some domains and point it to "@" on most of the ones that we use it on. It that case it is the same, but we can also point it to any IP address on the internet if we like. We could have a site "example.com" on one server and "www.example.com" on another. They can be completely unrelated to each other. In this example the ".com" is the top level domain, "example" is the domain, and anything left of that is a sub-domain. Be it "www." or "store." or "Ilikechocolate.". This is why I don't like them hiding anything. Not anything.

    i know what you mean - there exist a german website which offers content explicit w/o www. because admin says that its ***** and people should leave www. behind. (www. throws an error for that page).
    idd there is not, its an ancient string to declare page as web content, but it has no really benefit
    but less admins do so unless there is real separation necessary, i have seen less of those.

    but as mentioned you will see the full address when clicking into the omnibox or copy&paste. i think there is less impact for the masses who dont know about those circumstances, they just browse. but as to read they got irritated when there is something missing.

    i myself prefer also the full address but not for security, more of my behavior or convenience. :D

    ~~~
    forgot - i would like more to have a https-only mode for chromium based as firefox have since v76.
    Agreed, you would have to have control of the DNS records to do it anyway. If someone hacks that you have bigger problems.
    My gripe comes from an incident last week where a customer was having trouble with a webpage loading correctly and it was discovered they had typed in the "www." manually and there were resources on the site that would not load for that subdomain. Sure, it was the programmers error but hiding that information turns a simple issue into 2 days of troubleshooting.
    i am running chromium by purpose - i dont like the modifications in chrome nor like i flash. and with the marmaduke ungoogled edition - complete off google but this has some disadvantage as i mentioned before here.
    they need to follow or create a complete new branch. anyhow edge already is a branch like Opera, Vivaldi, Brave aso. to clarify - i dont have edge installed nor do i use it, i can only speak in general because in its basics its like any other chromium based.
