I haven't used uTorrent in ages since it was full of ads and PUPs (including OpenCandy). Is it still the same or has anything changed? Reason I ask is every time I login to someone's PC to tune their system (this is my part time job) I see they installed uTorrent and I start warning them about it but they insist on using it.

Ads are still there if you don't change advance settings (or pay for an ad free version - 5€ / year).
IDK about OpenCandy during initial install, but during updates install I didn't get additional offers for some time now.
For now I still prefer to use it over some other options, and paying 5€ a year to support company is not that much to me.

I prefer open source qBittorrent. It is light and also an easy switch for uTorrent users, since the interface is similar.

Also use qbittorent but its missing dome interface features. Like file priority is limited to 3 options

I rarely use torrents but I just have qBittorrent installed if I ever did need it. Do you find uTorrent any faster than qBittorrent or speed-wise are they the same?

I'm surprised it still works? I thought lots of trackers blacklist it

Afaik the last crapware free version of uTorrent has unpatched vulnerabilities.

Afaik, at the time I switched the speeds were the same. I've tried multiple torrent clients, and didn't notice much speed difference between them, biggest differences were how heavy on resources they were. Speeds are more dependent on number of seeders and seeders/leechers ratio anyway. With a fast torrent, I can max out my 200mbit fiber subscription.

Download link still leads to old version (build 45660). That's frequent problem with uTorrent - their download site, links and changelog are usually not updated or current.

I'm surprised to see this is still a thing. It was great at one time. I dumped it after it became adware. I don't even know that I need it at this point. I mostly used it for Linux ISOs but we have gigabit internet at work now so not much point.

Surprising to me too. I wonder why it's even allowed to post its updates on a security forum. This is a virus in disguise. I've switched to qBittorrent way back and now using Transmission which is even better/simpler UI
