    Hi All & Bo
I'm an old SB user but new to this "party", and I believe I tried the first version of this fork back in April. I can't seem to find an Windows install by following the Github link, and in any event I read here about waiting for MS so it seems further releases are on hold for now. Have I read correctly?

Yes this branch of Sandboxie will have a fully signed driver and this means a mountain of MSFT Buerocracy.

If you are eager to try out something new there is the other branch: https://github.com/sandboxie-plus/Sandboxie/releases
But the driver is signed with a leaked certificate what results in many false positives from Antimalware fools.

Is there a quick way to allow forced progs to run temporarily unsandboxed? I was thinking a 'run unsandboxed' option in the right click context menu would be very handy for updates and settings changes etc.

Good seeing you, henry. Version 6.0 is signed and ready to go. On June 4th, Tom told me he was stuck with Microsoft. He told me he needed to find a way to submit the drivers to Microsoft but he is getting the run around by them. (My thinking is: Probably some little guy working for monster company Microsoft is making things hard for the ....little developer, for ....little SBIE :D). Tom asked Sophos to help him get through to them, so be ready, the party will start soon.

Henry, if I recall correctly, you like using FR and SR W10, Version 5.33.6 works beyond W10 2004, so, no need to get desperate and rush to update when there is really nothing extremely important to update in SBIE. Again, good seeing you and Welcome to Wilder's.

Hi drhu, you can disable Forced programs via right clicking the SBIE icon in taskbar. Look here.

    Sin título.jpg

And you can set up for how long to disable Forced programs in Sandboxie control. See pictures below. I set mine at 60000 seconds. You can also disable Forced programs this via.

You have such an option (additionally to the methods mentioned above by Bo). But it is a little bit hidden:

    - Right click on the icon of the forced program.
    - Click in the context menu on "Run Sandboxed". [This is the strange part of the procedure as you want to do the opposite. ;) ]
    - In the window that opens you will find an option "Run Outside Sandbox":

    ROS.jpg

    - Click on it and verify by clicking "OK". (Afterwards you will be asked once more if you really want to do this.)

I have used Sandboxie for over a decade (v5.33.6 now) but for quite some time it has been giving warnings when using Chrome.
For example with YouTube as soon as a video is started the messages are:

SBIE 2303 Could not get CoGetObject (33,16550
SBIE 2303 Could not hook RegisterDragDrop (33,1655)
SBIE 2318 DLL initialization failed for 'ole32.ddl'

I've downloaded sandboxieinstal v5.41.0 but it does not install. The little blue circle begins to turn but stops after a few seconds and nothing seems to happen.

(I'm using Windows 8.1 with StartIsBack so it looks like a modernized Windows 7.)

How does this work for you?
I just made a new sandbox since I wanted to have PotPlayer not being able to access the internet.
After a while I realized that videos stopped playing after a while and once I seeked forward in the video it would just stop, just as if the file was corrupt/incomplete.
I found out, the problem was Sandboxie copying every video to the sandbox folder and now the disk ran full.
How did you solve this problem (except giving PotPlayer full disk access)?

I guess PotPlayer uses some different Windows API call to open files, as VLC or MPC do not have this problem.
Is it possible with Sandboxie to allow direct disk access for certain file extensions?

EDIT: The problem only appears to occur with .mkv files for whatever reason. Can you verify this?

Those messages are pretty common when running Chromium based browser in Sandboxie. They don't mean anything being really bad or that something needs to be fixed. The solution is to either ignore them or Hide. Everybody gets them.

The first open source version that will be released by Sandboxie Technologies will be Version 6.0. Version 5.41.0 is not developed by Sandboxie technologies but by David Xanatos of Sandboxie Plus. I havent tested it, you might want to ask David about your issue here.

I have no issue whatsoever as you describe. No special settings. Only settings I change from default are for blocking internet access and blocking sandboxed programs from having access to personal files.

Files I open sandboxed by PotPlayer are Read only. The one thing I found different with PotPlayer installed sandboxed as opposed to the old KMPlayer (my favorite player) I install normally is that with PotPlayer I get this type of messages in videos that are not 100% complete and were downloaded as Part.

    Sin título.jpg

I dont increase size, so videos are played Read only.

I usually keep installs for about 10 days.Usually sandbox size is 89 MB to about 130MB. Never seen size extremely large.

I dont have any mkv videos to test. Perhaps give me a link to download one to see what happens.

Hello. Took me some time to find this forum since they closed down the other site. I hope this is the right spot to come and post.

I had to stop using the program since it failed with constant errors.

    https://community.sophos.com/produc...onstant-sbie2101-object-name-not-found-errors

Regardless using of using 5.33.1, 5.33.3, and 5.33.6. I seen posts above about future updates but not exactly sure where the place will be to go to look for new releases of Sandboxie to try out. I saw mentioned Sandboxie

Plus, but I only used the freeware Sandboxie and not sure if a key is needed for Plus.

Can someone please provide a location of where one would go to try any new releases after 5.3x?

    Thank you.

I just discovered this thread and have not yet read all the way through it. My first question:
Is there yet an appropriate place to post new questions about use of/problems with Sandboxie? -- jclarkw

Thank you very much Bo. You took away my concerns. :thumb:
(I was secretly already looking around for an eventual alternative to my old Sandboxie.) :(

I remember it was probably around 2006 or 7 that I discovered Sandboxie and liked it so much that I got a life long license, and that Tzuk via emails gave me some advice on how to set it up and solve a difficulty I encountered. He told me maybe three or four times a year one or another clever guy found a hole in Sandboxie which he always swiftly fixed.

Looks like I have nothing to download/install for now. Sandboxie is still doing a good job as ever. Although I will gladly use Version 6 when it becomes available.

No idea about a Plus version. Wonder what the difference might be... but for now I'm fine and trust I will be with Version 6 as well. :)

Hi jclarkw. I remember you :). If you have any questions, you can ask them here in this thread or open a separate thread in this sub forum of the forum.

I read of the 2101 message but I never seen it I don't think. Some of this Sandboxie messages can be safely ignored. If your sandboxed program still works properly even though you are getting the message, then it can be ignored.

But, you can try, 1. Deleting contents, and 2. Test using a new sandbox with default settings.
