My granddaughter recently told me that every mainline browser will dump support for Adobe Flash in the near future. True or false? If true, why? If true, what (if anything) will take its place?

I disabled it in all browsers well over a year ago and don't miss it a bit.

Most sites already migrated to HTML5 so you will most likely have no problems when Flash is removed from browsers. Flash was (is) a security nightmare so replacing it with new technology is good decision.

I will always use FLASH locally as always. One of my favorite hobbies over the course of using flash locally was compiling then utilizing .swf files for PC automation such as accurate timers and clocks and even a few presentations that only apply to my local machines.

Let them go ahead and dustbin the net versions. Never used them anyway and ad interrupters always used them for nefarious purposes when synced with the browser.

I briefly searched and found article "Firefox to start blocking Flash content in August" published Jul 21, 2016 on arstechnica.com website. Since around that time it is long standing goal for browser vendors to deprecate and get rid off Flash Player.
