    For anyone else who really, really, dislikes the Mozilla 75 address bar changes ... :sick::mad::eek:

    https://www.ghacks.net/2020/04/08/how-to-restore-the-old-firefox-address-bar/

    1. Load about:config in the browser's address bar.
    2. Confirm that you will be careful.
    3. Search for the following preferences and set them all to FALSE
      1. browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus
      2. browser.urlbar.update1
      3. browser.urlbar.update1.interventions
      4. browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips
      5. browser.urlbar.update1.view.stripHttps
    4. Restart the Firefox web browser.

    And a big thank you to Martin Brinkmann and ghacks.net :thumb:

    thats not "madness" thats luck - to have it opt-out. known since firefox 74 nightly (has been activated for testing purpose), and pretty good known since firefox 75 nightly. the switch changed in time -> "browser.urlbar.megabar" (firefox 73).

    really madness will come with firefox 77 where there exist no opt-out any longer, the switch will disappear.

    for userChrome.css
    Code:
    #urlbar[breakout][breakout-extend] {
      top: calc((var(--urlbar-toolbar-height) - var(--urlbar-height)) / 2) !important;
      left: 0 !important;
      width: 100% !important;
    }

    #urlbar[breakout][breakout-extend] > #urlbar-input-container {
      height: var(--urlbar-height) !important;
      padding-block: 0 !important;
      padding-inline: 0 !important;
    }

    #urlbar[breakout][breakout-extend][breakout-extend-animate] > #urlbar-background {
      animation-name: none !important;
    }

    #urlbar[breakout][breakout-extend] > #urlbar-background {
      box-shadow: none !important;
    }
    copyright Sören Hentzschel @ camp-firefox.de - free to use

    next major change will be the auto dropdown -> browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus <-- false
    but content changes now - now its history, next will be prefered sites from the tiles/same as tiles (as far i understood)
    currently no option available!

    entering ^ changes dropdown list

    as long i can "repair" it with a style i have no problem. i am long time firefox user and accepted a lot of changes include Quantum where i got benefit from using chromium in the beginning. but the pixar urlbar is pain and the upcoming address suggestions from tiles w/o option is absolutly no go. i assume they took drugs while developing this feature. anyhow chromium is showing no such animations although they changed the GUI several times. further i wrote elswhere that firefox is becoming pain ******* for any admin who need to explain its customers or to deliver a style and/or setting solution for all profiles in enterprise. admins really are going to have hard times with firefox, in special when they upgrade from current ESR v69 to next level (v7:cool: second half 2020 - silly waste of time.

    lets wait a see the next 2 weeks where teh journey is taking us.

    Yeah, drugs might explain it. Looks like I'll have to learn CSS, or move permanently to Vivaldi. If only Vivaldi worked properly on Linux. :(

    For me only DRM does not work (it means no Spotify in Vivaldi for me). Everything else works as intended.

    I was OK until the last recent Vivaldi update, then I've been having minor bugs. It's annoying because Vivaldi's a great browser and I've stopped using Chrome. I thought at least I have Firefox (default browser on Ubuntu). Unfortunately Mozilla aren't shooting themselves in the foot with these pointless GUI changes, they have blown their own legs off (to extend the metaphor). Vivaldi kind of reminds me of Opera ASA (Presto), brilliant ideas, they listen to their userbase, great browser, but a bit of a bugfest.

    It's certainly looking like a contender.

    i would prever the original - if Brave is not portable i would use Opera which is. i am long time user of ublock so i would prefer this combination.

    Thanks for that find, Dave. Will be making the changes on all machines. Also not happy with the direction FF is heading.

    I'm allergic to Opera, unless it's Puccini. I gave the Snap a go on Ubuntu. I had to uninstall it. I was so happy when I convinced Vivaldi to run on Ubuntu. I ran it on Ubuntu five years ago. It's still basically a beta lol.

    You're welcome. I think Firefox is heading in the direction of Nowhereville, fast.

    USA still the best. But barely.
    I switched to Vivaldi full time almost a week ago. Loving it.

    Vivaldi works on macOS (mostly). It was my default browser on Win 7. It's still a beta on Ubuntu IMO but I can live with it. I use it probably 70% of the time on Linux now.

    I really liked Palemoon. But after signing up for Hulu, I couldn't play videos online at Hulu at all. I went back to Firefox because I couldn't see the point in having a second browser just to get to Hulu.

    The Opera Snap was more buggy than the regular download of Vivaldi. Plus you have less choice of customisation. And ... I have to say this ... Opera looks like crap on Linux. I know it's only an aesthetic, but ugly is ugly.
