Hello! I use Privatefirewall and Avira Free Antivirus on my Windows 7 machine. Avira can update the database, but not the program itself. Antivirus uses the temporary updater when it performs program update so Privatefirewall blocks it. Avira uses the following file Code: C:/ProgramData/Avira/Antivirus/TEMP/SELFUPDATE/update.exe Privatefirewall blocks Avira silently without any alerts. How can I configure Privatefirewall to allow Avira update?
You can put private firewall in learning mode update Avira after the update switch back to auto mode Hope this helps Regards
Hmm, private firewall seems to have dropped from developers website. Has it been abandoned long ago? Sorry to bump in, just thought to ask as you guys are using it.
I went to download this program yesterday and when I went to the site, Malwarebytes went berserk. I remember using this program years ago and it seemed to be safe. Any idea what changed with it?
Training mode is useless in this case because of Avira generates random folders with update module every time when it performs version update, e.g Code: C:\ProgramData\Avira\Antivirus\TEMP\SELFUPDATE\3731a12c.upd\update.exe This is a very strange behavour for antivirus software. Why not use one persistent update module?
Currently I'm not using PFW but I think you should check list of trusted signers in option panel - if Avira is not listed try to add this AV. Yoy can check also advanced rules of Avira's processes and due to it's security app make all actions allowed. As I remember @bellgamin is still using PFW...maybe he will give some advice.
You are very frugal in describing your PFW settings...I can't guess what you already have done. At present I can recommend - check advanced rules of Avira processes or set them on "allow" in "process monitor" window - in basic settings activate manual controll to check what appears in popup alerts - if you disabled trusted publisher make it enable and delete all listed except Avira...if is listed...if you should add it.
