Is it safe to download hitmanpro from bleepingcomputer.com?

I recommended to a friend to scan his pc with hitmanpro, but I saw that he downloaded it from that page. I realized because in the interface of the program, at the top where the version of it appears, it says Bleeping and he confirmed it to me.

 

Reputable site, perfectly safe. It would be the free 30 day trial version.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for posting this problem.
HitmanPro detected Avast Online Security on my PC; more exactly the file named "messages.json"
I don't know if this is a false positive ?!

 

The .json file is potentially dangerous. Read HERE. Ergo, some AVs may raise a red flag about any .json file that is new to their data base.

HitmanPro support page recommends the following action re a possible False Positive (FP)...

In the meantime, you could also contact Avast to let them know about this possible FP, AND/OR post this issue in the Avast support forum.

It is a so called PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application). The file can safely be removed from your system. It is an extension in your browser. If you want to keep the file(s) it is fine as well.

HitmanPro marks several toolbars belonging to AVG and Avast as PUA, like Avast Online Security, AVG Online Security, Avast SafePrice, and AVG SafePrice.
These toolbars have been caught monitoring and selling your browsing habits to third parties. Sources:

Although Avast says they've cleaned up their act, HitmanPro still marks these toolbars as potentially unwanted because this is still their official reply after they were caught pants down: "We have never compromised on the security or privacy of personal data." Really, never? This sounds like they are only sorry for being caught.

Knowing this, how important are these toolbars to you?

 

Back in the day I used to be a avid tester of HMP and HMPA, but lost interest after Surfright sold the intellectual property for their software to Sophos.

So, after not testing this software for at leas 4 years, and previously on my desktop running XP Pro, which has since died, I have just installed HMP on my laptop for the first time, which is running Windows 10 Pro.




After, allowing the SAP prompt, it has been installed. I ran a first scan which found over 100 cookies. Those, I deleted.

A while later, I loaded HMP again, and I have only 2 items that I have decided to ignore.

It is legacy ware that still comes with Window 10. I never use Internet Explorer, so not too fussed.

I might just leave it in abeyance. I don't want to upset the apple cart, so to speak.

 

I had absolutely no problems turning it off and if you might have you can turn it back on is just as easy.

So I don't think it's worth the (potential) trouble after all, because it remains installed...

Trying it out with the EWS, for the first time. I (really) don't want to activate it, and don't need to buy it, since I don't have any malware on my system.

 

No, it's certainly not something that comes with Windows 10.

It comes bundled with certain programs you install and then miss the option to uncheck it when installing those programs. If my recollection is correct, it first came bundled with Incredimail back in the day.

I thought he was reffering to "MyStart", maybe i was wrong. Always read twice before replying.
