    Bingo!

Something set up a proxy on 127.0.0.1:50388; after disabling that Windows Update works again.

(How) can I found out who/what did this?

What AV are are you using? Many perform hidden localhost proxy for their SSL/TLS protocol and web filtering activities. And some do it for all HTTP/S connections; not just browser ones.

That's what I thought. That setting only applies to IE11. The like setting for your network connection; i.e. Ethernet, etc. in Win 10 is:

    Win_Proxy.png
This implies a manual proxy was set up on your Win 10 device. What you have to research is how that could be done outside of the Win 10 desktop environment. One possibility is someone gained remote access to your device and modified the registry setting associated with this manual proxy setting. This type of activity is also indicative of an attacker setting up a hidden localhost proxy to intercept all your network traffic. Check your localhost file for any modifications.

I also believe that Emsisoft would not have set a manual proxy on your device since as noted, it would block other other Win legit network communication such as Win Updates.

Yes, Emsisoft doesn't alter proxy settings. It even doesn't scan network traffic, just monitors DNS requests.

No problem here either, but on this dual-boot machine I had to restart twice just like the last update. I guess that will be the new norm for this machine.

Mine took a little time to download and then install.
Could just be download speeds are a bit 'iffy'' sometimes given the current internet situation.
But no issues with it at all so far.

My Windows time did not update automatically here in UK today to reflect Daylight Saving.
It was set to do so. I just turned off 'Set the time Automatically' off and then back on again to make it change.

That's a little odd, stapp. I've not see that happen here, but I know if the clock is too far out it won't sync properly.

I've had the same issue. I've used Sync now option to set it right.

Do you by any chance have a computer which has a Killer Networking LAN or WLAN? If so, then I highly suggest you make sure you uninstall the Killer Bandwidth Control Center/Services and install the INF flavor of the drivers only and block Windows from installing drivers from Windows update so it won't reinstall those services for you. That slows down the internet and causes some programs / utilities to not even detect that there is internet connectivity on your computer.

See: Guide: Killer Software / Extension Un-installation and Blocking = http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/guide-killer-software-extension-un-installation-and-blocking.830549/

    and, latest LAN/WLAN/Bluetooth Drivers (INF) = http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/latest-lan-wireless-bluetooth-drivers.827354/page-3#post-10999386

    @Spartan
Not I don't have that on my machines.
Not too bothered about it really, easily solved (about 5 seconds)
Just posted about it as a heads up really.

no problem, just wanted to make sure as this is one of the most common problems I am seeing lately on various forums since as lot of new laptops are coming with either Killer LAN or WLAN cards.
