Gave this a try again (paid version) after reading all the news about Avast and Jumpshot.

At least for the paid version, I haven't seen any such big declaration for collection of data during the install.

Product (AVG IS) now appears to be stable and running well on a couple of laptops. As such there is no doubt about protection.

Though, during install one needs to be mindful (i.e. uncheck the "Cleaner" and browser extensions please).

The interface appears to have gone through some kind of overhaul, which is a good sign. This product is finally usable again after a lot of bugs a couple of years ago.

It's a shame the controversy had to happen just when these products were getting good again.

Can anyone explain to me what is the deal with Avast/AVG and the AMTSO test file for cloud lookups? On AVG, it appears "FileRepMalware" detection only gets triggered on-execution while the file itself gets downloaded just fine.

I have seen threads on other forums describing the same behaviour with Avast, but there is no proper explanation.

The great Avast support asks for remote access to my PC to solve this "serious issue". Can anyone here inform me as to what's going on?

This version is out of beta and is being offered (for now) as an opt-in stable update to the AVG users.

I have a two year I got cheap from Newegg. It was the internet security suite. I stopped using them because they would spam me with popup ads for their other products. Kinda like avast does.

In paid version you can switch off ads....

I am using it on one computer. It is a decent product but the paid version i.e. internet security makes it a point to continue spamming me from time to time to buy other products, especially AVG Secure VPN.

There are still a few bugs, but overall it is far more stable than it was in 2018.

I can't say I am a fan of their spamming me with ads. I'll use it as long as it doesn't annoy me too much.

Yep. Gone. It's a little too snoopy for my tastes.

    1. Gives you alerts that your IP is visible right when you're at a possibly shady/riskware site. Pushes AVG Secure VPN.
    2. Sends you an alert to activate AVG email signature directly when you are busy sending emails over Gmail.

The above two behaviours lead me to strongly believe AVG tracks it's users and collects a lot of data. It was too creepy for my tastes, YMMV.

That's why I stopped using it also. Not very quiet.
