ok, in the boot folder I got bootx64.efi

Well, I used the F12 tapping method but my new pc boots up so quickly, I can't read any options to choose. When I went into system settings/advanced startup options and restarted from there, then I was given the option to choose UEFI UFD but it still had the same outcome. Obviously when the pc does not boot up normally, that option would not work anyway as a standard option. Funny thing is that I tested this once before when I had installed
the trial version, having used "make disk" from IfW and at that time it worked.

Well, my Bios Mode is shown as UEFI (as per screenshot) , not sure where I would see the CSM but the secure boot is shown as OFF.

CSM should be in the BIOS Boot or BIOS section. Do you have a link to your motherboard user manual? I'd be interested in reading the BIOS section.

Can you get a Boot Menu from the BIOS. Possibly a menu in Boot Override.

If no luck try a different brand of UFD. I like small UFDs. 1 to 4 GB for TeraByte boot media. Also try a CD.

    I found this...

    bios.png

I'd Disable Legacy Support and Disable Fast Boot. Does that help?

    Also...

Brian, you are so much faster than me - I just managed to get to the boot device screen and got the attached - need to study the link you found. F9 is correct to get to the page but then I did not recognise my stick under the options bios.jpg

It's not there! It should be with Windows Boot Manager.

Try a different UFD or a BIU CD.

Ok, I tried something else first - doing a new stick but using the Ifw Create Recovery Media option in the start folder (like I originally did for the trial version) and then tested this. That worked for me. I then retried the
earlier UFD stick and now using F9 I could access the UFD. Previously I did not use F9 but F12 and then indirectly got a page for bios, obviously not appropriate. Problem with the Bootit option though was that I was not prepared for the license. As I had entered this already when creating the UFD and had not yet printed it, I was unable to type it in, so got only the severely restricted version. Not sure whether that also caused my wifi mouse to stop working, so will do some more testing tomorrow. Out of curiosity what is the advantage in using the Bootit UFD compared to the rescue UFD from Ifw?

I assume you mean a comparison of BIU with TBWinRE. They both have an image/restore function, IFU and IFW. IFW is a little faster. BIU is mainly used for multi-booting and partition management. If you aren't multi-booting then there is no need to install BIU. Just use it from the boot media. UFD or CD. TBWinRE has a lot of sub-modules which can be handy at times.

Depending on your BIOS support, a WiFi mouse might not work in BIU. Either use a cord mouse or...

The fastest imaging and partitioning is with IFL. I use IFL for restores and use the PartWork module for partitioning. A BootIt license is required for the PartWork module of IFL.

Images created by IFW, IFD, IFL or IFU can be restored by any of the other media. In summary, all my Windows images are created by IFW and all restores are done by IFL. For Linux OS, I use IFL.

sorry, now I am a bit confused. I don't use multi-booting though I can see that partition management may be useful depending on the circumstances. Where I am unclear is re your choice of creating the UFD from Bootit as opposed to from IfW -Rescue Disk and in fact you mention that for restores you use IFL. I see that there is also a IFL-Make Rescue Disk feature. I think I am mixing up the rescue media and the programs available but what is the easiest to use if you don't plan to do constant restores, so a few minutes more or less don't matter.

Understood. I'll try and make it easy. Forget using IFL and IFU (Image for UEFI).
Only have two boot media, TBWinRE and BIU. They are quite different.
Use TBWinRE for your restores. This will be an IFW restore.
Use BIU for partitioning work such as create, delete, undelete, slide and resize partitions.

    Questions?

Perfect and I just tested the BIU and realised that the keys are different from IfW. I thought due to the bundle they would be the same. This time I was prepared and could check out the options. I will keep this in reserve but TBWinRE will be more important for me. Maybe in the future if I want to play with it, I will try the dual booting and I am sure I will have many questions again. Many thanks for your patience.

Not sure if BIU behaves similarly to BIBM, but I found that the transmitter for my wireless keyboard/trackpad (Logitech K400r) has to be plugged directly into a USB port on my computer (not into a USB hub) in order to be able to use my keyboard/trackpad during the initial boot sequence with BIBM. Any similar devices plugged into hubs aren't recognized during the BIBM menu (but are eventually recognized once the OS loads).
