"More than a billion Android devices are at risk of being hacked because they are no longer protected by security updates

Anyone using an Android phone released in 2012 or earlier should be especially concerned..."

Perhaps they can use their computers - which are probably still running XP - to look up how they can protect themselves... :)

You can't compare Windows to Android. I'm running Windows 10 on some 14 year old laptops. However, on Android devices, you can only install updated firmware supplied by the manufacturer, or custom firmware - if it exists. As a result there are many older Android devices, which can't be updated to more recent versions of Android.

Not really. Many people are smart enough not to think they have to buy a new phone every 2 years for $1500.

As am I. My current Android phone is a Nokia 1 Go and I paid the ridiculous price of AUD$89, which was about $79 in CAD.

That's why many people buy an iPhone for which you get updates for about 6 years or so. This puts its higher price into perspective.
