Why this thread still has this misleading title?

    +1
Maybe it's too late given the title didn't change after more intensive discussion when the thread was created, but it simply doesn't reflect a fact.

This is what uBlock Origin has been doing for a long time. They even admit that they are using libraries from uBO to achieve this.

Sorry, this is not good enough, IMO.

Note that I'm not saying that Brave is a bad browser. It is good that they integrate ad-/tracker blocking in the browser itself. However, whatever they've done so far - using uBO instead is definitely the superior solution.

I do use uBO in Brave. Nothing stopping anyone adding what ever extensions they like.

    Exactly :thumb:

The difference between Brave and other browsers is that with the former you get speed and privacy by default and you can customize those perks with third party extensions like any other browser.

I think Brave approach to advertising is healthy and should be praised.

@ronjor Could you kindly change the thread title to something like "Brave browser Discussion & Update Thread"?

The actual title is misleading to say the least.

    Edit: Thank you very much.

Proton Onion Site does not work within the TOR subset implemented in the latest Brave update

Of course µBO is superior, and I love it, but I still use other add-ons with it. Brave has the best built-in protection available and it will only get better. And the advantage of having a company and team dedicated to this will bear fruit over time.

    Absolutely! I'm using the built-in features with a couple of add-ons for set-and-forget goodness!:thumb:

He was quick to respond and already changed the title.

    Thanks for the tip anyway.

    Congrats for the title change!
The Proton onion site works fine on 1.4.96, tho I turned off built-in blocker, it seems the site still works if turned on.
I hope someday they make this whole staff user-configurable as well as out-of-default filter subscription. Also $ping, $popup, $csp, $websocket, and $important should be supported ASAP. Their wiki explains nothing about scriptlet injection so I had to look at source to see what scriptlets are available (*). But I understand their main target is average user.

(*) They seem to be very limited subset of uBO scriptlets, and labeled by "#[test]" so IDK if they're fully functional.

[EDIT] It may be more serious than I thought. The most common trigger for anti-adblock is, arguably, cosmetic filters. So turning on this even only for third-party will jump up the rate user will encounter AAB. Of course many of them are already addressed by filters Brave uses; #@# or $generichide on EasyList or scriptlet injection on uBlock Unbreak. However, according to their wiki $generichide is currently not supported and apparently many of scriptlets used in Unbreak (e.g. nobab.js) are not included in Brave's arsenals.

    Hello,

I am giving Brave a try and have a question...
I am using uBlock Origin and HTTPS Everywhere with Brave and want to turn off all of the shields and let uBO and HTTPS do all the work as this gives me more control. I have turned off everything in "Shields" and left everything on allow for "Social media blocking" but Brave is still blocking items. Is there something that I am missing that will turn off "Shield" completely so Brave does not block anything?

Have you set "Cookies" to "Allow all cookies" and "Device recognition" to "Allow all device recognition attempt" via Settings (not Brave icon on individual page - as it is for per-site settings)?

    Hello,

Yes, I have everything set the way you described.

But I think I have discovered out the cause of the issue...
On Chromium based browsers, I use the "Clear browser data" under "Settings" > "Privacy and security" and have always set it to "Advanced" > "All time" and checked all the boxes, and never had any issues. With Brave however, if I do the same, it breaks the "Shields" settings. I have to uncheck the "Site Settings" box in order for "Shields" to stay set the way I want. If I do not do this, the "Per-site" settings reset to the defaults even though under "Settings" > "Shields" the settings stay the way I set them. Interesting...
