If you can install Chrome then it makes sense the same for Edge.

When I run Chrome or Palemoon or others it was always Portables only so wasn't quite sure how it would tie into Windows 8.1 without sticking feelers in other parts of it. Very wary of Microsoft's new techniques to those ends and 8.1 is been flawless

Not mine. Where's your sense of adventure :D

I still use IE on Windows 8.1 for sites that I selected are OK to make visits on.

On casual browsing and clicking links it's Vivaldi all the way! :thumb:

    - I also use IE for a number of websites. It allows me to download videos with a special plugin that doesn't work with Chrome or Firefox.

ms impostors. internet explorer engine still gets updates until the bitter end, maybe under the hood since now. too many used and ancient programs relying on IE view. ms only disabled and/or uninstalled the UI due to Edge IE mode, until 2029 when the last Windows 10 LTSB/LTSC is really done.

I can't find a definite answer but what about hh.exe? It's my understanding this uses IE to open HTML Help files.

HH is based on internal view, this is what i meant about "ancient" software. it may work if you allow it. HH is concerned to CHM files. CHM need to work until the bitter end. thats why help files are saved/installed as html files with all sources and no longer as CHM.

    - Based on what read in that article IE 11 will only be disabled, not removed (yet ?? ). At least, not right away.
