Are we watching the same test? It did fine in every single test except for scanning of a folder with malware (with no execution of the malware). Phishing protection was 100%. Ransomware protection was 100%. And the malware execution test was also 100%. There's a lot of legitimate reasons to criticize Webroot. Who cares about an inert folder scan?

I don't think so. No reason to spend that kind of money just to let it go down.

Just to let you know Joe (PrevxHelp) is working with Webroot in the Product and Strategy area but he doesn't do anything with the Client side of things. And that's good news!

Absolutely. Joe has always been the genius behind the architecture and the success of Prevx>Webroot, and his continued participation in the development strategy of the product can only be good news for its future.

Maybe Joe will figure out how to manage WRData ... ;)

I did use, and like WSA for many years (since PrevX / SpySweeper days), but maintaining that started to become more trouble than it was worth. I know only some people had issues with that, I think related to many low reputation portables maybe.

Is this the issue with the WRdata folder keep increasing in size?

Can't Webroot simply schedule their optimizer to empty the folder when certain criterias are met?

    - size exceeds predetermined MB

    - if criteria 1 is met, empty folder after 1 month has passed

Yes, I had occasions where that folder would grow 10's of GBs overnight ...

Why does WSA show a lower number of total scans when rebooting, sometimes, i.e. resets the total.

Yesterday, the count was showing a total 855 scans. Today, it is back to 847. Weird, I say.

WSA_number of total scan shows less after a reboot_01.JPG

    I stumbled across this today:

"Hey @Armand , I can tell you that Webroot values your privacy. I pulled this from our Privacy Statement for you:

The California Consumer Privacy Act 2018 sets forth obligations for businesses that “sell” personal information. Webroot does not engage in such activity

You can read more about this here on our Privacy Overview page.

    Thanks

    Drew"

According to this Webroot is not selling user information like Avast has been caught doing. It'd be a neat thing to have a bit list of vendors that aren't doing this.

But does it imply they do gather data? What kind and how do they differ from Avast's "anonymazation" which is essentially useless according to experts?

@imuade it's makes WSA more noisy per say as it will have more pop-ups to ask you if you want to allow or not. Test them for yourself and you will see.

Warn if any process connects to the Internet unless explicitly allowed

If any process connects to the Internet, unless the process is explicitly allowed in the active connections list, the system displays a warning.

    Hi @Triple Helix ,
    thanks for your feedback :)
In another forum I read the firewall warning will last for a couple of minutes, then, if the user doesn't answer, the process will be automatically allowed to connect to the internet...

About "Warn when any new program executes that is not specifically whitelisted = issues a warning for any program not specifically included in the Webroot database of websites that are known to be okay", I think it's strange that they refer to a database of websites and not to a database of programs... am I missing something?

I think some of there online Guides need to be updated or corrected.

Should be part of the Web Threat Shield.

of websites that are known to be okay.

OK, I have tried the Heuristics setting with a safe, but not very common file:
    IPv4Calculator.exe
    SHA-256: 58850505066f38724195dc6dd008d35f5a44a55b900a1c487d6f08603d06264a

The file was blocked and it's actually blocked by default after 120 seconds :thumb:

Something I have been curious for quite a while. And this directed at those here that also use VoodooShield.

Why use VoodooShield when Webroot already has an anti-executable?

Let's confine the discussion in this thread to Webroot.
