The Chromium-based Edge will launch later this month and Microsoft has started sharing essential information about the browser, including how to disable various features in your environment.

We reported in December that Microsoft has revealed that they will be pushing out the Chromium-based Edge browser to the majority of Windows 10 users.
Microsoft will be pushing out the update, replacing the old Edge, to all Windows 10 users on Windows 10 RS4 (April 2018 Update) and newer.

This may of course cause compatability issues, and Microsoft is releasing a Blocker Toolkit for enterprise users to control the rollout.
Now Sean Lyndersay from the Edge team has revealed that most enterprise admins need not worry about the web rendering engine of their PCs being changed wholesale over the next few weeks.

Microsoft now notes:

The Blocker Toolkit is intended for organizations that would like to block automatic delivery of Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) on devices running Windows 10 version 1803 and newer that are running the Home or Pro Edition of Windows. All other versions and Editions of Windows are automatically excluded from being updated automatically. [...]
Specifically, no enterprise versions of Windows will be automatically updated, meaning the Blocker Toolkit is just needed if you run Home and Pro on your enterprise network, and if they are not joined to a Domain.

Microsoft is replacing its Edge browser with the updated, Chromium-based version on January 15. Windows 10 users will be automatically transitioned over.

Thankfully it will look mostly the same as the existing Edge browser, with all the same proprietary Microsoft features, except for a slightly more Chrome-esque look.
Since the new Chromium Edge will be based off the same browser as Google Chrome, Edge will now support all the same extensions.

Microsoft has actually taken pains to introduce privacy features into its flavor of Chromium that will make it less permissive of the fingerprinting and other tracking methods that Chrome supports.

Microsoft says that enterprise customers won’t see their browser actually upgraded, but will rather have the choice to stick with the “traditional” Edge or the Chromium flavor.

I've read that it will be offered through Windows Updates. It hasn't shown up yet though ( 8:30 AM PST ).

Thanks. FYI if you install from this is does not update the beta and you have to uninstall that separately.

I think it took the bookmarks from the beta (cannot check as I have removed it already) but nothing else (no extensions or custom setting).

While Edge Chromium is available today, it’s also launching without some features you might be familiar with if you’re used to using Chrome. Both history sync and extension sync are missing at launch, but things like favorites, settings, addresses / contact info, and passwords will all sync. Microsoft is planning to have these missing sync features available later this year.

Watch the language when you download. When I tried to download this from Firefox the dialog was in Spanish. From what I have seen elsewhere, that would be what you end up with. I tried to download from the beta Edge and it was as expected.
