AdGuard v7.3 for Windows: our Christmas present to you https://adguard.com/en/blog/adguard-7-3-for-windows.html ---------------- AdGuard for Windows version 7.3.3048 from December 25, 2019 https://adguard.com/en/versions/windows/release.html
TY, anon! I updated Adguard for Windows on two 7x64 machines without issue, then rebooted just to ensure all worked properly.
Well, I got the release update after reading here it was available. Appreciate it, anon. That's good enough, no more betas for now. Really like this desktop version, may never go back to just an extension.
With Chrome extension manifest v3, many will like AdGuard for Windows. -------------------------- https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...he-death-of-ublock-origin-and-umatrix.412351/ https://adguard.com/en/blog/how-ad-blocking-is-done.html
AdguardTeam/AdguardBrowserExtension on GitHub Integration mode The frequently asked question is "does it make sense to use the browser extension alongside AdGuard for Windows or Mac?" Interestingly enough, the answer is "yes, if you like the integration mode". Q: What is integration mode? It is a special mode that the extension enters when being run along with a desktop AdGuard app (on Windows or macOS). Q: What happens in the integration mode? In this mode, the extension stops filitering traffic (this function lies completely on the app). Its settings are also ignored, the app's settings are applied instead. The extension's color changes to blue and it serves as a replacement for AdGuard Assistant.
It seems they don't explain why, at least here. One reason I can easily think of is, if you make filters by yourself the extension is almost mandatory.
Looks to me that creating filters is definitely possible without an extension. I believe it is done via AdGuard Assistant. As noted above, if AdGuard for Windows users elect to keep the AdGuard browser extension, through Integration mode the extension acts as a replacement for AdGuard Assistant. I have not created any filters yet, but that is my understanding.
Sure, you can create cosmetic filters in the same way by AG Assistant, and even network filters via its filtering log; however, while the extension allows per-tab monitoring, logs by the Windows application is only distinguishable by processes. This is, in practice, a big difference IMO.
Awesome info on the extension + desktop software. Have a quick question: the Adguard for Windows package seems very complete to me, more like a suite of sorts. So for now, it's the only add-on I have for Edge--no other "trinkets". Can anyone think of anything important to add? Don't use any vpn or anything like that. I removed Norton Safe Web--it was always bugging me about sending "anonymous" browsing data. I see there's the option for WOT. Remember the WOT fiasco? So, even though there's a comeback of sorts, it's staying disabled for now. Anything else maybe?
Not really. I also use AG for Windows and I can't think of anything "important" that needs to be added to my browser. AG is all I need.
Great, I'll leave things as-is then. Browsing Security is likewise enabled. Also evaluating Stealth Mode, I'll see about that one. If anyone has anything to say about Stealth Mode, I'd like to hear it. Does it slow your browsing, even the slightest bit?
Don't know whether it does in all scenarios but in some not too old different hardware configurations, it does slow down my browsing experience. But in general I like it.
