Thanks so much! So far so good on Google Chrome.

I wish I knew how to decipher these things so that I can create my own rules.

I turned the autoindexing on now for cname folder, so if, there is some new
stuff just cherry pick it from there

    Hi guys,

Is there any way (or a filterlist) that would prevent websites from knowing that I am using uBO? Also, any way to prevent them from seeing what filterlists I am subscribed to?

    Thanks.

which website is seeing what filters you use? And how do you have ublock configured?

I found ADEBiS in my region declared to use CNAME tracking as early as September. Not sure if it is already in play, but can you add "ebis.ne.jp" to your list?

Short answer: no, except for site-by-site measure.

A common way to detect ad-blocker is to use a probe or set of probes, if the probe is blocked or hidden they deem you using blocker. Different websites use different probes, e.g. this site shows AAB upon certain action if /adspace.css was blocked. A network rule /adsbygoogle. and cosmetic ##.adsbygoogle are probably most common probes, but are most common ads too, so whitelisting them globally is not recommended. Fanboy's problematic websites List includes bunch of whitelists to avoid detection, but it is not needed for uBO since it has a better solution of scriptlet injection. 9to5mac is currently on discussion at AdGuard Filter, but we need to whitelist quite many staff if scriptlet injection is not available, which makes decision hard.

For another question, they just know sth is blocked - usually a rule or rules included in EasyList, so they won't know what other filters you subscribe.
We have just experienced it, see recent conversation. You won't notice most of the detection unless you investigate their source.

Thanks very much for this. I was checkout this out recently and it's always been on my to do list to look into, but was not finding much online about how to mitigate it.

Sure, I updated the cname dir and it has now ebis.ne.jp trackers too. I found 189 from
that raw data dump, cname.sqfs file.

I also updated the README.txt for instructions to generate own tracker lists out from that cname.sqfs.

Ah, that site uses bunch of probes taken from each list. I forgot to mention that it's theoretically possible to determine your subscription to fingerprint you by such a way, but haven't seen any actual site doing that so far, tho obviously my observation is limited. Of note, a paper stated that ABP was detected by many more sites than uBO; however, they didn't investigate what method was used for detection.
Thank you very much, I'll see if they hit on my regular browsing!

Thanks man. That was my concern fingerprinting. I suppose if not many sites are utilizing probes like this I am in the clear, at least for now.

dns level blocking might be an option for you if it's vital to prevent sites from detecting your sub-lists.

    What would you suggest?

Tho I agree that domain blocking should be done on DNS level as much as possible, I'm skeptical about its benefit to prevent such a fingerprint. All the probes I've come across w/ AAB were either cosmetic filter or 1st party resources (the latest). Tho I can't talk about probes for other purposes, I think that's reasonable from web master's perspective.

well, yeah, you've got a point there. but, that's an inherent issue with fingerprinting countermeasures, imo.

I have never heard of Nano Defender. I'm saying that I can't see any videos on that site, because it detects my ad-blocker.

It's not an AAB, but a (obtrusive) cookie consent. It's beyond my expertise (I'm not even sure if bypassing it is possible), nevertheless a senior member like you should know a proper way to ask for help.

    @okiehsch
Can you help? Reproduce condition seems to be:
    1. Access from Netherlands (the site appears to check your location by https://geo.choice.faktor.io/data)
    2. gids.tv#@#div[id^="div-gpt-ad"] is necessary. [EDIT] the consent modal appeared w/out this.

[EDIT] Re: Nano Defender: Don't waste your time, the site is not included in its list as of now.

I have no idea what you mean with "proper way", but I think I should have placed another link. Normally, it's not about the cookie consent, but the videos are blocked on this site with a warning about me using an adblocker, in this case uBlock. I will look for a better link.
