Dans been having a lot of issues with the latest beta's. I'm sure he'll figure it out. Original concept was to make a "simple computer lock" however lately it seems to be getting further and further from "simple". In my mind a simple computer lock has two options, on and off.

Unfortunately, this does seem to be the case - at least for the time being.

I think Dan is getting a whole heap closer with the new version. :isay:

with WhitelistCloud built into VS it will make it more user-friendly, and if you want you can always disable WLC.

the "simple computer lock" is the definition of srp. so; ag, osa or andy ful's hc is a better option, imo.

Never been entirely sure how VS fits in with those; I think the original idea was to indeed to prevent unwanted processes from running, when online.
So slightly more dynamic than H_C static rules?
AG is enterprise software, and pricey for the average user, but certainly the Rolls Royce of SRP, for those that know what they are doing.
I am a fan of NVT in general and OSA in particular for the average user, is sporadically not maintained though, which seems to have caused some issues for some users?

Haven't tested VS for a couple of years now, maybe someone can place its capabilities via its alternative settings, in some context compared to these others softs, for our edification now?

I use OSArmor v.1.4.3 with no ill-effects at all in Windows 10 v. 2004 (Insider build). I test it now and then with different processes like wmic, etc and it seems OK. :) Time will tell.

A question: Is WhitelistCloud going to be strictly within VoodooShield, or can it continue to be used as a standalone? Also, since you can donate to NoVirusThanks, why not this and still be classy?

VS is very actively maintained, & Dan answers the mail. OSA has been un-maintained for several months, and Andreas is MIA. Fortunately, OSA is not the type of security app that needs frequent updates. Can the same be said of VS (honest question)?

It is already part of the Beta versions and can be disabled in settings if desired. I'm not certain if WLC standalone will continue or not. Check the forum.

OK, thanks for the helpful replies, bellgamin and Bertazzone. :)

It seems VS software can be monetized like PrivaZer and OSA without looking like you're being money-grubbing. That was my more my question. So, WhitelistCloud's future as a standalone is uncertain. OK. I guess that's prefaced on how much in demand it is by itself, maybe? OK, I'll look at his forum now and then.

VoodooShield is a very impressive security application and the 5.5+ version with WLC appears nearly ready for a full release.
For the Average Joe wanting incredibly strong lightweight protection I believe this program is the best in the game.

I need to try it out again, it has been awhile. What is WLC?

I've just been a VS user for two months so with that said I think WhiteListCloud plays its most important role when you first install VS, because on its own VS has no way to determine if your system is infected at the time of its installation! That's where WLC comes in as it scans and checks all installed exe's against a list of all those 'known-to-be-clean' and blocks any that are not on its list (you may override any bilocked item at your discretion). Afterwards, I believe VS will block anything it doesn't recognize from running (without the user's approval).

I've probably over-simplified this and maybe I'm 'way off-base'? If so, I'm sure the more experienced users around here will show me the error of my thinking and shoot me down in flames. :doubt:

I think your right on Cruise, basically once WLC scans your rig you can be pretty much assured that your clean.

On a side-note, since installing VS I'm seeing a very noticeable 'performance hit' when launching/opening my apps!

What version are you using of VS?
It is much better than before with the latest, now 5.54F beta.
(Clean install of it highly recommended)

Absolutely! Although Dan never suggested a clean install, my logs showed that after an over-install the new VoodooShield service never installed.

I'm very leery about running betas on my system, but if you guys say v5.54f is stable I'll try it.

Definitely clean install. It's probably getting real close to release and it's stable. And programs launch quicker on this version, i.e. I'd say like not having VS installed.

Edit: After install I used "Training" mode and opened my usual apps, i.e. only for a short time. Try this and then set to your preferred mode.

I wasted my time trying to locate 5.54f beta. Evidently, access thereto is for the elite only. If betas of VS are not available to all VS-Pro subscribers, then I suggest that those betas be discussed under a separate "beta" thread, instead of being intermixed with support questions from VS-Pro subscribers who aren't allowed beta access.

Example of separate beta thread: HMP.A beta thread versus HMP.A support thread.
