    Upgrading Tips:

    To upgrade SpywareBlaster from a previous version you can either:
    (a) Download and install the new version of SpywareBlaster "over-the-top".
    (b) Uninstall the old version of SpywareBlaster first. Please see the detailed upgrade instructions here: http://www.brightfort.com/sbupdate.html

    Either method should work.

    We're investigating support for the Chromium-based Edge browser in an upcoming release. :cool:

    (Note: We're waiting for the first "public"/non-beta release of Chromium-based Edge to run thorough testing on all supported versions of Windows.)

    While I haven't seen official clarification from Microsoft yet, most people anticipate that once Chromium-based Edge is released it will completely replace the "old" (Windows 10-only) "classic" Edge. As such, we're fully focused forward on Chromium-based Edge (which has a number of improvements related to extensions / integrations).

    ("Classic" Edge did not support nearly as much configurability / customization / extension / integration, and so was not directly supported by SpywareBlaster.)

    I don't get it, how does it exactly protect? I mean we can already protect against ads and trackers with adblockers.

    SpywareBlaster uses multiple methods to prevent spyware / tracking cookies / bad scripts / etc. (The specific methods may depend on the browser you are using, and what integrations it offers.)

    At a very high level overview, SpywareBlaster configures policies that the web browsers apply to block specific things.

    For example, on Google Chrome, SpywareBlaster will configure policies to block bad / unwanted scripts and cookies / local storage from tracking/spyware domains (etc).

    The way these policies work is quite different from how adblockers works. As part of a smart, multi-layered defense, SpywareBlaster's protection methods complement other security tools (and adblockers) quite well. They also don't require SpywareBlaster to continually run in the background, and do not negatively impact performance.

    Hi,
    Today i've just updated spyware blaster to version 5.6 (before it was 5.5), and now automatic updating doesn't activate... I've got a message "license verification error : 22A" every time i want to activate my 2 years license bought in year 2018. It seems to think that i'm on a new computer but i can confirm you that it's not the case... I can't send a support ticket because no "captcha" appairing in my browser so i can't validate my ticket... (i already deactivated adblockers)... So what can i do?

    Installed 5.6 to see if "Your browser is managed by...." was still evident.

    Needed to remove registry key to clear chrome://policy & remove "Your browser is managed by..."

    Thanks, will test it for a while and report any problems. So far no issues with Chrome, Avira, and Kaspersky in terms of compatibility.

    Upgraded via method (b) (that's how I did it always in the past, and did it now too).
    So far so good on Win 7/64 with IE11.

    Just installed the latest Version 5.6 and updated the protection and applied. One protection did not take in Google Chrome on 2 separtate systems. There was the "Outcast" protection that remains disabled on both systems for Google Chrome. I tried running as "administrator" and this one protection remains disbaled. Apart from that everything works fine as expected.
    Both systems run Windows 10 Pro (1803) fully updated. Google Chrome is Version 78.0.3904.108.

    Also are you looking at supporting "Waterfox Classic" as well. I have addons that the latest Firefox stopped supporting when they changed extensions to use the WebExtensions API. Particularly some essential for me as "Session Manager" as well as "Flashgot" stopped working.

    Thanks for your ongoing improvement and support for a stalwart on all my systems.

    Good news indeed as I am it is probably the 'oldest' soft I run. Sort of sentimental about it.

    However, even with v5.6, I still get 'Admin Required' for Google Chrome protection, which I only recently also started getting on 5.5, but didn't report.

    I do run as admin, so wondering what can be done? Uninstall / reinstall?

    I just did the update to the new version but experienced a few difficulties I thought I should report;
    Brightfort download page was first blocked by the Malwarebytes' Browser Guard, which I ignored and chose the option "I want to continue to this site anyway". I also tested as to whether Majorgeeks was blocked by Malwarebytes' Browser Guard and it was not so there must be something with the Brightfort download page that the Malwarebytes' Browser Guard doesn't like.

    Then when I tried to run the installer my WIndows 10 WIndows Defender SmartScreen prevented this installer from running. By clicking More Infor I was then given the choice to Run Anyway. I of course chose to do this because I have used SpywareBlaster for many years and know it is safe.

    I believe you should alert users of Malwarebytes' Browser Guard and Windows 10 that this is likely to happen.

    Kaspersky SC did not like anything about the installing of SB 5.6 over the top.

    As far as I'm aware, it's probably simply that they haven't whitelisted "www.brightfort.net" yet.

    Would you mind contacting them / posting on their forums and ask them to whitelist it? Thanks!

    What are the details of the system on which you are encountering that message?

    For example:
    1.) What version of Windows do you have installed? (Windows 10? Home? Pro?)
    2.) Do you have UAC (User Account Control) enabled? If so, which setting?
    3.) What other security software do you have installed?
    4.) Have you made any other system configuration tweaks that might affect Windows security settings?
    5.) Is the computer joined to an Active-Directory domain?
    6.) Is your user account a local account, or did you sign in using a Microsoft account?

    Hi, I am just waiting for the holidays to install the November 2019 Version 1909. From what I read it is the best Version currently available.

    I use SledgeHammer to stop Microsoft from forcing upgrades at inopportune times.

    Any feedback on the "Outcast" glitch for Google Chrome.
