I just installed TSE to try, and turned on both the BD and Avira engines. After update, the signatures show August 16/17 for both engines?!?! Is this normal?

the speedup module is good, I think I've seen any possible tweaks and yet they did improve system responsiveness and fixed some little issues
even if you have an AV you could install it, run the tweaks, and say 360 goodbye, it's worth it for the tweaks that actually do something
dunno about the product since you seam not to have much control over what is happening, there are almost no settings

There are more settings than there are for just about all other antiviruses. For example, you can configure 360 to prompt you when a threat is detected and let you choose what action to take, rather than automatically quarantining.

If you click on the Protection icon in the top left corner in the window, you can customise the protection settings.

If you select Performance mode, you can run 360 alongside another antivirus.

This program seems really light, at least according to CPU time, memory, etc. in task mgr. I have both Avira/Bitdefender enabled.

It is one of the lightest antiviruses there is.

I just installed essentials. Is Total much heavier? It seemed like the extra stuff was non-protection related (ie. bloat). I wish the site had a side by side comparison.

There should be very little difference between the two. The extras in Total Security, are not related to the realtime protection, so shouldn't have any impact on system performance. However, Total Security provides better protection.

Cruelsister tested both versions and found that TS performed better. This is understandable considering that TS is at v10, whereas TSE is still at version 8.
Yes it does. However, you can by Premium licenses for around $10 on eBay. I presume the license works for TSE as well as TS. I haven't tried, as I prefer TS, due to better protection and more features.

I don't usually like the cleaning functions in antiviruses, but 360 is an exception as the cleaning and speedup functions work very well. With most antiviruses, you just get a very basic junk cleaner and maybe a registry cleaner too, which don't work so well.

Wasn't that cruelsister comparison like three years ago? Also, I am not sure you can interpret the version number that way. It may just be TS is older than TSE, or that it gets more updates related to the non-security features, etc..

Also, when/where do the ads show? I don't think I have seen any yet.

Yes, the comparison was a few years ago. But, considering that TS is at version 10 and TSE at version 8, I would expect there to be improvements in TS. It would be different if for examples TS was at v10.6 and TSE was at v10.2.

I think you will see ads if you run a context menu scan.

Any setting to make it ask before it removes items? I got this false positive just now, and it quickly quarantined without asking me.

2019-11-15 16:25:54 C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Client\86.3.130\DropboxThumbnailGenerator.exeThe file has been deleted. You could recover this file from quarantine as needed HEUR/QVM20.1.4063.Malware.Gen

Yes, in Settings -> Active Protection -> System.

If you have Download file scan, enabled (which is the default) in the Protection settings, 360 will still auto quarantine suspicious downloads. However, you are given an alert with the option to restore and whitelist the file.

I like this Av to but how good is it, nowadays? No testing info makes me...uncertain of its quality.
Do you have any info about that, on the net i can not find any recent testing.

Off topic, where is Cruelsis nowadays?

It has decent signatures and is usually one of the first antiviruses to detect new threats, but its behaviour blocking is no good as some of the big name antiviruses. It's fine if you're not click happy.
I read at Malwaretips that she won't be posting for a while. I don't know anything more than that.

TSE was established after TS, right? I wonder -- did they begin numbering TSE's updates starting with 1, instead of 2 or 3 or 7 or ....? I also wonder if the difference in version numbers could be attributed to the possibility that the first version of TSE began with 1, rather than to an unsupported assumption that TSE's smaller version number means TSE is outdated compared to TS?

Further, it seems evident that TS & TSE have chosen not to submit for testing. The "tests" cited herein were done by a private individual (not a lab) and are significantly outdated. Thus, the quality of protection afforded by TS/TSE is basically an unknown.
