    Zam V3.x is flagging signed files from Adobe and Intel, for more than 2 weeks...
    That's not aggressive, that's inexcusable.

    I would, and I do recommend and use ZAM portable V2.7x on a daily base on my customers machines.
    ZAM 2.7x has only very few false positive, and it uploads unknown files in their rented cloud.
    ZAM V3.x obviously does not.

    Stay away from ZAM V3.x

    I tried ZAM a long time ago and didn't like it. Too many false positives. There are definitely better second-opinion scanners.

    I could be wrong (nothing unusual there), but I thought once you uninstalled ZAM (2.x version?) it left behind a driver and other files. Probably a good reason to use the portable version.

    You sure make a lot of assumptions about motives and such.

    I almost NEVER use a freebie if there is a paid version, except in rare cases where the freebie is a come-on for a successful paid version. As I have noted in other threads, I have used a number of freebies in the past and, without exception, they are all dead & gone now.

    Since I avoid freebies as a matter of principle, I bought ZAM premium, which mainly offers a real-time scan versus the free version. I do not use ANY AV (including ZAM) to scan real-time. By me, ZAM is used on-demand only.

    My primary 3-fold real-time security consists solely of EXE Radar Pro 3.1, a FW, & R-Drive Image. My 3-fold on-demand security is a file integrity checker, ZAM, & HMP.

    ZAM is excellent for second opinion but lacks the other stuff (configurable HIPS &/or strong BB, etc) needed for it to be a stand-alone AV (like ESET et alia) in present day circumstances.

    I have been with Wilders for a while and prefer it over other security forums because, in addition to helping users, it is a friendly, helpful place for developers seeking beta testers and suggestions. There have been a goodly number of now successful security programs that did a good bit of their early spadework here at Wilders. Zemana is one of those -- see their beta thread HERE. That thread begins in Jan 2015, not quite 4 years ago. Since then, all of Zemana's key staff members traded on ZAM's initial successes in order to move into independent work. Rather than going belly up, Zemana has re-staffed, rebuilt, and produced the alphas & betas & release versions for ZAM 3 right now, in this present year, 2019.

    The stable/release version 3 has been on the street for not quite 3 months. Its newly-developed heuristics are probably the main cause of its FPs. The thread I cited above reflects the fact that Zemana chose Wilders as a test lab for trying to recover its former excellence. It is early days, and certainly quite destructive to a rebuilding company, to call its efforts "abandonware" and to go into extremely negative "recommendations" such as those in recent posts.

    Excuse my lengthy post but I REALLY miss the days when the majority of Wilders members tried to help instead of merely carp and criticize.

    The problem is I think, that (based on some posts at MT) that this new staff has now also fallen out, or moved on, and the product is again in limbo, or worse, abandoned.

    I agree with @Hiltihome, new FPs in v3 are not being addressed in spite of being reported as safe.

    I was a beta tester for v3 and have a lifetime license for (now stable) v3, but wouldn't buy v3 (or v2) now.

    Yes, you were a very proactive tester, and contributed a lot to version 3.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Zemana is now located in Turkey. To verify that fact, scroll about 10% down THIS page, to the 1st paragraph under the heading, "Where are we now?". Their relocation to Turkey somewhat accounts for the prevalence of Turkish names on their staff, as listed/illustrated after scrolling down about 30% on THIS web page.
    It turns out that a relatively lower-than-average number of Turks are proficient with the English language -- see HERE. Although I didn't research the average Turkish proficiency in other non-Turkish languages, that proficiency is likely as low as that for the English language. Ergo, it is likely to be difficult for Zemana to find & retain Turkish personnel who are skilled in both (a) computer science and (b) in one or more non-Turkish languages. This factor may contribute significantly to Zemana's currently slow/no response to requests for dealing with FPs etc.
    IMO, there is plenty of room for a Turkish-based security app in a world where malware sources know no boundaries. My point: if you are messaging Zemana's tech support, please cut them some slack & offer positive suggestions and encouragement. I, for one, hope they will return to Wilders for counsel & support, as they have done more than once in the past.
    Grace & peace to all,
    bellgamin
    They have always been. The general opinion I read about Zemana, is that, at least for now, v2 is much better than v3, with better detection rates and far fewer false positives. I've experienced a number of false positives with v3, that I didn't have with v2.
    When there was no new version released v2, for quite some time, there was a concern that Zemana was going to abandon the product. Eventually, v3 was released and Zemana were once again actively posting here and at MT. However, more recently there have been few posts from Zemana, which once again led to people being concerned about its future.
    For now, I believe that v2 is better than v3. It can be hard to find an installer for the free version of v2, as Zemana heavily promoted their paid product and made it hard to find the free version. The paid version, has a 30 day trial, but does not revert to the free version once that trial has ended, so stops working.
    Yeah, Emre TINAZTEPE, the original Lead Software Architect @Zemana (v2 anyway) was surely Turkish.
    Don't think English would be a problem, especially in IT. Many think here in South Africa we only speak Zulu. :D
    I'm not sure. I think it was v2 that I tried. It's so long ago, so it was probably not v3.
    Why (honest question -- not a challenge)? AFAIK, v2 & v3 use the same sigs, right? And v3 has the heuristics component, whereas v2 does not, right? So i wonder why 2 is preferred to 3?
    Hmmm... I thought their main outfit was in Sarajevo. That's a horse on me -- pints all around, & Bob's your uncle! :D
    No they use different signatures. You can see this for yourself if you try both versions. v2 has heuristics as well, but it's different to v3.
    They started in Sarajevo. I was not aware of that.
    Me? You're the one who claimed "ZAM is a second opinion scanner". Is that not a HUGE assumption? What about, "as such" it "should be" very aggressive?
    I did not assume anything about you. I said "I think" and "perhaps" and used other non-directing terms to express my opinion about what "might" have happened.
    Well, that's your choice and I'm perfectly okay with that. I will frequently pay for the paid version of a free program I like to show my appreciation to the developer for making such a fine program. But I won't if paying means subscribing to recurring fees. But that's me. I have several licenses of Malwarebytes Premium, but only because I got in their "Lifetime" license offer before they went to a subscription based fee. If that was today, I would stick with the free version.
    If CCleaner Professional, for example, offered a one-time fee for a lifetime license, I would probably buy that. But since they want $25 per year, no way. I don't need any more "bills".
    o_O And what was your post about? Your very first line in your reply to me was a criticism of me! :rolleyes: And most of the rest of your post was mostly carp and personal criticism of me too. My post was critical of ZAM, not you. But you took it personally. :( You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But so are others.
    I miss the days when people didn't automatically lash out with personal affronts at others who express a different viewpoint. I made a point of saying, "sorry" and "I don't blame you" and even suggested that when you did buy it, perhaps "it was a wise choice". Nothing I said was a personal criticism or carp of you, bellgamin. But since you took it that way, then again, I'm sorry.
    Really? I thought it was Swahili! ;)
    I don't think the lack of English proficiency in Turkey would be a problem either - at least not with programmers in software development. I say that because I spent some time in Ankara and at Incirlik Air Base and worked side by side with several Turkish technicians on the base there. Among those highly trained in IT support, English was not a problem. The accents were, but that's another issue. When we hit the local markets and villages, the language barrier was a definite problem. So we usually took one or more of our Turkish coworkers with us.
    If Zemana is having difficulties attracting, recruiting, and keeping the necessary talent, that can only be because they lack the necessary investors and revenue for operating expenses. And if that income is failing, that's typically because consumers are not finding the product worthwhile. And perhaps all these reported but unaddressed FPs that continue to linger are part of that reason.
    They may have gotten too far behind to recover now. And frankly, while I am not a fan of ZAM, I would hate to see it fail. Competition is good for consumers and if Malwarebytes does not have ZAM as a viable competitor, it may result in the developers at Malwarebytes losing incentive to keep improving their own products. Instead, they will sit on their laurels and that is never good in business or product development. Intel learned that the hard way and it took them 10 years to leapfrog back over AMD. They would not have survived if they didn't already have very deep pockets.
    Yup, they fixed mine, too.
    I will engage in friendly discourse about ideas, concepts, things -- not attack people as people. I choose to ignore personal attacks & pointless arguments. I cede this thread to you and your ill-tempered duck. After 17 years in this forum, I choose to move on from contentious threads.
    Yeah right. That's why you continue to pursue this "discourse" after I once again apologized to you.
    But just to ensure no further misunderstanding, I again apologize if anything I said was taken as an attack on you, as a person.
    Seems like their AI is driven by forums rant, and reported FPs.
    So basically just a whitelisting app.
    That's only a beta I believe; the stable version is still 395?
    I see from the release notes that it is only beta, but I got updated anyway though my version does not say beta, only Premium, and there seems to be no channel option in settings, or elsewhere.
    But I guess I must by default still be on beta channel.
    But at least it does mean there is life out there. :cautious:
    When I ran a can I still got a heap of FPs related to MiniTool Shadowmaker Free latest version ... reported as safe.
    I used to run v2 occasionally, when [ongoing] development of ZAM seemed to cease...
    Anyway, I just tried to run the last version that was released, as per the screenshot, as follows:
    ZAM_update form version 2_02.JPG
    But, I kept getting the following message, so ended up having to install Version 3 beta.
