I got updates today both on the standard release and on the release preview ring, but nothing on the slow ring for quite a while. I'm not sure if I'm farther ahead on the slow or release preview.
I see they also updated the fast ring. I guess I'll see that update on my test machine in the morning.

Re the double installs. I get them frequently now and had accepted them as Microsoft not being able to count properly so had to have 2 goes at it :D
Seriously though, itman's explanation could make sense, what doesn't make sense it why some get recorded in Control Panel/Programs and Features/View installed updates and not in the View Update History in Settings.
The double install happens quickly just when it starts installing after download.

I have none either. I think Woody kind of exaggerates things all the time. Probably, the more he does it, the more reads he gets.

I've also had no problems after updating Windows 8.1 and Office 2013.

Perhaps, and keep in mind that this is only one article. For those visitors/members who are having these issues, searching for answers, posting the article here gives them another opportunity to confirm what they are experiencing, until a fix has been published. It's all FYI in the end.

I don't think Woody exaggerates. It's simply that the act of focusing on problems that occur to a minority of users might come off sounding like exaggeration. Besides, I'm pretty sure if an issue hits home (happens to you), your chief concern is not whether you are in the majority or the minority. Like JR said, it's all FYI. Not much sense in exclusively trusting everything Woody says, or everything Microsoft says.

    'Kind of'?
Every possible issue he hears of he immediately attributes to Redmond. Mostly out of fear, uncertainty and doubt. There's an infamous acronym for that and that's a serious offence.

That said, I think it's good that JR posts Woody's articles here. So people can make their own conclusions.

Understood and agreed. It was not a criticism by any means. My concern is that when people see an article that like they just assume Windows 10 is a complete failure and try to do things like hang on to Windows 7 beyond the end of support and take a greater risk by doing that than updating without having tried it. It may indeed be broken for them, but usually not. And yes, Woody does tend to exaggerate. :argh:

You are right, I was trying not to be too rough. His articles are crying wolf type, after a while, you cant take him too seriously anymore.

Just a couple of weeks ago, in one of his articles, he quoted a post from tenforums, from a guy with an issue that only this guy had. Other users in the same thread, including me, reported not experiencing or being able to reproduce this issue (with Libre). But Woody quoted the guy, and made it look like a lot of people could be experiencing the same issue.

You are too kind my friend.
Just look at the comments section - Micro$oft, Microslosh and whatnot.
We have a cult down there, and Woody is the leader.
And just a snippet from Wikipedia's article on FUD -
    Namely, DEFCON and similar...

Who doesn't in today's 24/7 search for eyeballs? ;) Woody's personality rubs some people the wrong way, yet if the world was all bland, where's the fun in that? :) He's just one voice of many. :isay:

It's not the personality at all. As a matter of fact, I like his personality and the way he writes. It's unconvential and somewhat fun.
What I don't like is disseminating unsubstantiated claims, and biased personal guesses.
    For example -
What happened with the KB update that was supposed to reenable Windows telemetry on Win7 a month ago? It never appeared!
(You should remember, we had a short discussion)

Seer, that's your opinion, and it's fine, we all have opinions, including Woody. I continue to post Woody's articles because he backs what he's stating with external links, most of the time.

Now, I have yet to meet the perfect human, if one does exist, and we are all prone to make mistakes. Again, he's only one voice, and hyperbole or not, he deserves to be heard.

Not everything is a matter of opinion. There are also facts - the update that reenables telemetry is either coming or it's not. There is no space for an opinion there.
But I will leave it at that - for now at least.

As I said, I personally would like you to continue to post his articles.

    Cheers JR :thumb:

There are apparently more than 800 million users of Windows 10 as of October 2019, this is an astronomical figure, problems for some are bound to happen, although I personally have never had any serious issues since it was first introduced.

This is true, with so many machine variables. I haven't had any major problems either since version 1703 with the Start menu and taskbar freezing. Have not seen that horror since.

But anyway, I switched to the Release Preview ring, restarted my faulty and hateful machine and voila, 1909 was right there. It took only seconds to both download and install. Another restart, and winver is now 18363.418. Incredibly fast. Everything is running smoothly right now. The only things so far: I had to edit registry again to get the PUA detection back for Defender, and tamper protection had to be switched back on. The Store live tile remains dead even though it got an update. But that's it for now. :)

Strangely, I looked it up in Settings/About and it says it was installed on 9/17/2019. That's false obviously. Hmmm.

    Check these two links -

    https://www.deskmodder.de/blog/2019...oeffentliches-release-ende-oktober-fuer-alle/
    https://www.deskmodder.de/blog/2019/10/09/kb4517245-feature-update-auf-die-windows-10-version-1909/

They are not official and are in german so you'd have to use the translator, but check if you have this KB4517245 installed. That would explain both the fast installation and the date.

Sorry, but I could not find any official info on this.
