Again, I have a lifetime lic for Sandboxie. The applicable license term has no expiration date.
Any idea what will happen when it pops up here on XP and wants to re-register?

They did pull Barb off support, they should have waited at least until the software goes open source but they really don't care nothing about SBIE (Never have).

Wow, was not aware of this. I really hope the forum stays open until then, so that users with issues have some avenue to try to resolve them via input from other expert users.

In hindsight, it's not much surprising, is it. Appreciate it, bo elam. :)

Hi plat1098. FWIW, I sent an appreciation message (via a friend) to Barb a few days ago, telling her we (the SBIE community in general) appreciate what she did for us all this years, that we ll miss her and wish her well also. I did it in our name instead of my name as I know others feels same as I.

Barb did good. She was probably overworked and under payed and she's probably happy to move on.

    Thanks, stapp.
I'll go over to the new sandboxie forums & troll around a bit.
Need to find out what happens for a paid license that never expires running on xp.
The new free open source is not for xp, and the old lifetime needs to register with the servers every 180 days.

This what happens to Sandboxie right now is a perfect example why online activation should be illegal to begin with.

No hurt feelings towards Invincea thay bought it already with that crap, and they did the right thing releasing a build without any licence checks.

but they should have also released the internal key gen used for offline activation...

    From Sophos forum

'Also you probably want to add the tip for the XP-users (or for all users of version 5.28 and older), that they can manually edit the sandboxie.INI in path c:\windows, and change the value of "SbieCtrl_NextUpdateCheck" to 2124300600, so that the update question is delayed to 25th April 2037. Otherwise they have to click "Next week" every week, and "Never" always adds the date of 18th April 2019 into the INI and so the Update-Question-Loop is restarting. The conversion between Unix-TimeStamp und readable date can be made for example at doubleyadoubleyadoubleya.onlineconversion.com/unix_time.htm'

I went ahead and installed the 5.31.4 free version on top of the lifetime one on my machines.
    No issues.

Anyone know when the next beta is coming out? So far a few windows updates have happened since the latest release of it and nothing on Sandboxie has been broken by them.

Perhaps it ll take a day or two after 1909 is released, for a Sandboxie release thats compatible to be released, but we ll be fine. I doubt we ll see any SBIE release sooner than that.
    Same here.

Honestly? I suspect never, at least not by Sophos. They've offered absolutely no support to the numerous new forum posts since their big announcement that they're planning to go open source. IF they actually do follow through on their word and release Sandboxie to open source, then someone/someople with the required knowledge and skills may be able to fix and develop it, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. There are reports in the Sandboxie forum that Sandboxie will absolutely not work with Windows 10 1909, which is due for release quite soon. It would be great if they provide an update to 5.31.4 that allows it to work on 1909, but personally I'm not holding my breath. I hope I'm proved wrong...

So, one is obliged to choose between Sandboxie and Windows 10 1909. This is kind of sad. I chose the latter already. But, the interest is still there in case a white knight comes along.

There's only one other program as far as I'm aware that does what sandboxie can do and that's comodo firewall. And even that doesn't allow you to make more than one contained space. Rehips maybe, but that program is absurdly expensive and the free version is limited to the point where you can't even use it with chrome or firefox, because both of those browsers use many processes at the same time.

Relax guys and gals, perhaps I wasn't clear enough, Sandboxie will have a version that's compatible with 1909. No need to choose between SBIE or 1909. We can have both at the same time (just have to wait for 1909 to become the official release).

Well, this is a ray of hope, bo elam! :thumb: Yes, I opted into the Insiders slow ring to get 1909 early, and was going to see for myself about Sandboxie compatibility. Now I understand that only 10% of Insiders have gotten 1909 so far (not me). But then again, it's supposed to make a wide appearance in a few days anyway. Maybe.

Yes, GrDukeMalden, this is one reason why I love Sandboxie--for the capability to run multiple sandboxes, no problem. :)

I read the release date for 1909 being as soon as Oct 3rd (tomorrow) or as far away as about 3 weeks from now. So, who knows when that's going to be. I believe we ll have a compatible SBIE version about a couple of days after 1909 is out. Sandboxie has to wait for MS to release data on 1909 thats needed before a compatible version is developed. :)

What does the development team look like right now? Do they have a budget that's good enough? Do they have enough people working on it and testing it for vulnerabilities and performance issues?

Also, that release date is only for the windows insiders, right?

Dont ask me questions that even if I know the answer, I should not answer. What I wrote here today is borderline. I am not sure I should have posted it. But I posted it so you guys know that we are going to enjoy Sandboxies protection in 1909. Lets leave it there.

Regarding when 1909 is coming out. I don't know. My best guess is that the release for the general public is somewhere in between tomorrow and the next three weeks. If I had to put money on it, I ll say its closer to three weeks from now.

I haven't read everything yet, but seems to be a pretty good article. And about the negative comments, I didn't have any major problems with Sandboxie. I must say I don't often update both Windows and Sandboxie, and browsers like Vivaldi, Opera and Firefox keep working.

I did had to ditch the old Firefox 52, because it started to behave weirdly (high CPU usage) when running sandboxed. But yes, if you do often update Win 10 for example, it will become interesting to see if Sandboxie continues to work correctly when it becomes open source, it all comes down to development.
