I like Chrome a lot and never find it to be annoying. I use a Chromium based browser, rather than Chrome itself, because it includes some features that are not include in Chrome and can not be added with an extension.

What I don't like is it doesn't allow much configuration, but these days even Firefox has approached to that. Not to mention Chromium doesn't allow HTML filtering & inline script filtering.

Interestingly, that link claims nobody at all uses FreeBSD.

Cent Browser (and a number of others), have the option to open search items and URLs entered into the address bar, in a new tab. I've been using browsers which have this functionality for about 16 years and it's a feature I really miss, whenever I use a browser which doesn't have this option.

Also, I can configure Cent and others, to always open new tabs to the right of the current tab and to go to the tab to the left of the current tab when it's closed. There are extensions which let you do this, as well, but there are none for opening links/searches in a new tab.

A centre-click (press down on my mouse scroll wheel) opens links in a new tab for me.

Probably because it gets installed with so many other programs unless you opt out.

I was talking about links entered in the address bar and not links on web pages. You can force links and search to open in a new tab, by holding down the alt key. However, I prefer for this to happen automatically.

See their FAQ section for methodology. Questions have been raised many times from the era where IE dominated in their browser stats.
StartPage does this by default, but in my case it's annoying so I disabled the behavior and saved the configured version (as well as other configs) as a search engine. Google search also has the same setting, but you cannot save it permanently unless you login to your browser as a Google user (it was once possible by embedding javascript for the search engine setting but no more). So it's more of a matter of search engine than that of browser.

If anyone here uses uBO for REMOVING ads & trackers (I mean, not for just HIDING), you have a right to dislike Chromium even w/out that WebRequest API thing. (I hope Brave someday fills this huge gap btwn Firefox.)

For StartPage, this only applies to searches done from its website and not for searches from the address bar. It's no doubt the same for Google, but I haven't tried, as I'm never signed in to my Google account.

What I want, is for everything entered in the address bar to open in a new tab.

I freaking hate Crappy Chrome, it's garbage to me, and I hope it will be destroyed some day, the sooner the better. Problem is, Firefox has become crap too, because they are copying Chrome.

Don't forget, they are planning to implement all kind of crap features into Chrome. Features that will most likely be abused. Think of the SMS Receiver API and the Native File System API. Hopefully, it will be possible to disable this stuff in other browsers like Vivaldi.

Vivaldi is based on Chrome. It doesn't even have its own extensions.

Apparently, it's possible for other browser developers to block certain API's. For example, Vivaldi has already said it won't limit ad-blockers, even if Google changes a certain API related to ad-blockers.
