Yes, 64 bit was already fixed. Afaik with Meltdown, 32 bit was also fixed quite later.

I went through all that the day before you did. How you describe it, sounds Identical to what I went thru. I didn't post about it because I thought most everybody here had already done the August update for W7, and didn't see one single post at the forum reporting the hoops that I/we had to go thru to install August updates. In the end, all was fine. Downloading, and manually installing the Service stack was the key.

Today, from Windows Update, I did not receive KB4516655, the SSU that supersedes KB4490628. However, I did receive the 3 other Sept 10 updates. This SSU is a recommended prereq for this month's patching. It's odd for this to happen and I do not know why windows update got it wrong this time, however I did do a quick online search to see if it was happening to others (but nothing), so maybe it was a server error or glitch that caught me out this time. I cleared all windows updates in the important queue, closed the GUI and windows update sent me KB4516655. It really did want me to have it!

I got offered KB4516065 Rollup for Windows 7, KB4514602 for .NET Framework, and the KB4474419 SHA-2 code signing support update.
After installation of those three updates, Windows Update found and offered KB4516655.
It was odd that prerequisite KB4516655 was only offered after installation of KB4516065, but anyhow, everything installed without any issues.

    - I fear MS doesn't care too much anymore about Windows 7 and releases "buggy" updates/patches.
    - One example is the offline installer for .NET v4.8. I downloaded this update 3 times this year. Each were different in size.
    - I am unable to install KB 4516065 and KB 4516655, even when I have installed KB 4474419.

Try installing KB4516655 on its own and not with the other patches. The SSU will be rejected (fail) if you try to install it with other patches.

I feel the same way. (I am still on 8.1).
I am still offered to install this update from time to time (and it should be already installed at least 10 times till now lol):

    Code:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3038936/august-2015-anti-malware-platform-update-for-windows-defender-in-windo
I checked and I am not the only one with this issue. Not much of a problem but still wondering why it happens...

Today finally I received the new servicing stack update:

    Code:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4512938/compatibility-update-for-installing-windows-8-1-rt-and-server-2012-r2

I'm glad updating Windows on Windows 10 is no longer such a mess, however getting all updates shoved down your throat is the opposite extreme :argh:

    - Downloaded KB 4474419 today (again) from the MS Update Catalogue website and the update is already in its 3rd version. The update had "-v3" in its name. (I still have this update with "-v2" in its name).

I was invited to install Rollup KB4516065 and KB4474419 of which I sent both off to the hidden bin. Then like magic, KB4516655 appeared. Downloaded and installed same and it went well. Then restored hidden updates KB4516065 and KB4474419 which I installed first then KB4516065 afterwards. I am amazed, but all is well. One month closer to D Day for this old rig.

Well, it looks as though that makes three of us who have had to shake out the SSU. Is it groundhog day?

This is not unusual. In V3 they added some boot files that were not in V1 and V2. They must have received complaints that some systems were not booting properly after either (or both) V1 and V2.

    Keeping W7 after eol?
    https://www.ghacks.net/2019/09/21/0...-security-patches-after-official-support-end/

    Also...
Microsoft Security Essentials will be supported for Windows 7 until 7's end of life January 14. 2020. No more signature updates after that even though Microsoft will be maintaining it and sending sig updates for a few more years to those who purchase the pricey extended support package.

NB: If you intend to keep W7 for a while after eol, Windows Defender in W10/8 will not work on W7. The old Windows Defender that came with W7, REMOVES SPYWARE but is not a full AV.

Oops, already posted! Missed this one ...

KB4522007 must be what showed up today when i checked for updates manually. It does not have a KB so i can't be sure. I downloaded and tried to install it but it failed.

    - I wasn't able to install (even manually) 3 Win 7 updates: KB 4516655, KB 4474419 (v3) and KB 4516065. But I found a neat way to get those updates installed after all. I first installed a previous version of those updates and then I was able to install the 3 ones that were refusing to get installed. It sure looks like that MS doesn't care too much anymore for Win 7 users.
    - Installed first KB 4490628 (March 2019) and then KB 4516655.
    - Installed first KB 4474419 (v1, March 2019) and then KB 4474419 (v3, september 2019).
    - Installed first KB 4512506 and then KB 4516065
Note: Perhaps one needs to remove one or more previous updates.

    Hi Dragon1952,
I don't fully understand this. According to the KB4522007 article you can get it only via MS Catalog.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4522007/
Look there in the paragraph "Install this update".
Or am I now misunderstanding it?

Not yet (for Windows 7), but I expect it later today, at the usual 'patch tuesday' time (in about 4 hours and 20 minutes), or some other time, earlier or later.
I would be very surprised if it would not be released through Windows Update and WSUS.

I would be surprised to, specially since exploit is used for targeted attacks and most users won't download it from Catalog.

The name of this patch that failed code 9c48 says that it is called .... Internet Explorer 11 for windows 7 for x64 based systems. I don't see a KB in the name of this IE11 patch that failed. The published date for this IE11 patch is 6 years ago at 11/14/2013. This patch looks like it might be the first patch to IE11 for win 7 from IE10 after it was released on win7 only 4 weeks before.. I just read that IE11 became corrupted after installing this update on 11/14/2013. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...er-11-on/41431a21-9966-46eb-8a8b-fed2b7a5e979 ... Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) is the eleventh and final version of the Internet Explorer web browser by Microsoft. It was officially released on October 17, 2013 for Windows 8.1 and on November 7, 2013 for Windows 7... It looks like the patch MS gave me yesterday was the first patch for IE11 on 11/14/2013 after it was released on 10/17/2013 a month before.

As January 2020 is closing in fast, now would be a good time to get rid of any corrupted windows updates on your PC. Some members have stated that one or several patches from windows update have failed to install or have partially installed then got stuck or a BSOD greeted them. The installation files from these patches remain on your PC - they are corrupted updates.

To delete the corrupted updates .
    1. Turn off windows update. Go to Safe Mode (no need to shutdown other services)
    2. In the Windows folder, find Softwaredistribution and open it
    3. Open sub-folder Download and delete everything from it (you might get a popup -need an administrator permission, go ahead & allow delete)
    4. Reboot
This may also delete the contents from your windows update history page, however installed updates will remain untouched. Running windows update after this should result in uninstalled updates being re-queued. If they have been superseded by another patch and you have that patch installed, they will not come back. Best to let windows update assess your system's specific patching needs after this operation rather than rummaging through the MS Catalog for a patch that you think might be required. You can always choose to hide a patch from WU (it's your PC).

After eol, we do not know how long Microsoft will make W7 patches available in the MS Catalog. It is most likely that access to all W7 patches will be removed on or right after the drop dead date. Get them all while they are still available from Microsoft especially if you intend to use W7 after last rights.

    - I always downloaded EVERY individual update MS recommended in the last say 5 to 6 years and still have more than 95% of those updates. I also always downloaded the off-line installation files. (e.g. IE 11, .NET v4.7 & v4.8 ).
    - And only when I make the final shift to Win 10 I am willing to entertain the idea of deleting all those updates.
    - I still have to make a decision whether or not I am going to install Win 7 one more time, to see what updates MS recommends right now for Win 7.
