On the one hand, good that they fixed it, but on the other hand the sending of the referer header itself already invades your privacy..

What's in the latest Chrome update? No EVs, that's what by Gregg Keizer (Updated Sept 15, 2019).

"Google has questioned EVs' usefulness, though. In a document that announced the demise of EV in-browser notifications, Google said, "Users do not appear to make secure choices (such as not entering password or credit card information) when the UI is altered or removed, as would be necessary for EV UI to provide meaningful protection."

Any idea what this means? Why would EV notifications in the address bar discourage making secure choices? Can the functionality be added back in?

I don't know and don't like this decision, but for now setting the chrome flag "Simplify HTTPS indicator UI" at Disabled adds the EV notification back.

I doubt the option to display the EV info will stay long term. We actually decided not to renew our EV certs just because of this change.

Anyone Block the Chrome Software Reporter Tool like me? I block it so it doesn't consume extra resources by removing the permissions of that folder so Chrome cannot touch it nor update it.

Perfect, just wanted to make sure I'm not doing anything seriously bad as I had an adblocker, custom hosts file, and Norton Antivirus basic so I don't need any extra security from a browser.

I wasn't before, but I sure am now. I just denied all permissions for software_reporter_exe. Awesome tweak, and should help my slower 7x64 box run a little better. TY, guys! :thumb:

For anyone who wants to block the Software Reporter, here are the instructions:

Block the Chrome Software Reporter Tool

Navigate to: C:\Users\Your Computer Usrername\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data (Make sure you have hidden files to be shown in File Explorer Options)
Right-click on the folder SwReporter and select Properties from the menu.
    Switch to the Security tab.
Select Advanced on the page that opens.
Click on "Disable inheritance" and select "remove all inherited permissions from this object."
Select apply and in the Windows Security prompt "yes."
    Select Ok
    Select Ok again.

Yes, that's good advice how to prevent SRT from running. I used similar settings when I was using Chrome and it didn't break anything. :thumb:

Pretty sure these are W10 instructions, as this step was not possible with W7. So rather than removing the permissions, selecting Deny in the permissions list for all users will make sure the tool is not allowed to run automatically. These W7 specific instructions can be found at this site, under the sub-heading 1- Disable the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool using file permissions.

Yes, it's working fine for me in W7.

Just a variation in steps to follow per operating instructions. :)

I tried to delete the exe on the reporter tool per instructions somewhere but could not find it.

I see a problem here, when an update comes in a new exe will be dropped. I rather block its execution via ERP.
