What is your security setup these days?

Taking Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Chrome extension out for a spin.
It may be useless/overkill, possibly even conflicting with other extension/softwares, but I'll soon learn.
Anyone else running this extension, please chime in. TY

 

It may be good with malware but I find it bloated, heavy and tries to do too many different things. Other options for me. Smartscreen or Bitdefender Trafficlight, depending on the browser.

 

Good points. I may disable a few of the protection settings, like Ads/Trackers and PUPs, leaving only Malware and Scams protection. Mainly I want to see if there are performance hits or other weirdness. Years ago I enjoyed running TrafficLight, but it ultimately conflicted with something else, so it didn't get to hang around.

 

A couple of changes. Moved from Windows 1903 back to Windows 10 LTSC (1809). I am finding the Windows Store more and more useless nowadays, so figured I'd use a rock solid base. Also reinstalled AdGuard to see how the latest beta is looking; so far, so good.

 

Back to uBlock Origin. Try as I might, I just cannot bring myself to trust a third-party app to filter my HTTPS browser traffic.

 

I do value SBIE on the "real" host, mainly as a mechanism for enforcing selective filesystem and internet access for the applications I still run there. I'm not comfortable with internet facing applications having potentially full access to my real file system. There isn't a current alternative.

Money isn't applicable as I have a lifetime licence....!

Such setup is extremaly light

Removed: uBlock Origin, OSArmor, SysHardener
Current setup: Kaspersky Internet Security (Trusted Application mode always enabled), AdGuard, Macrium Reflect. That's it.

 

I've narrowed down to 4 programs I like, WD (with Configure Defender), OSArmour, Voodoo Shield and Malwarebytes, just need to find a combination of these that work for me. 2 free and 2 I have a lifetime license. As much as I think EAM is the best anti-virus going I've decided not to spend any more money on protection when I don't need to. Also tired of using programs that hook so deep into your system that it causes issues with other programs. So 2 of the 4, which ones?

Probably best is WD and VS but I have a soft spot in my heart for MB as I've been using it a long time. Maybe use their browser extension instead.

I would do WD with ConfigureDefender, and OSArmor. Optionally Browser Guard add-on, and MB on demand (no auto-start, all protections off), to satisfy your soft spot ...

Planning to do first two on an old ThinkPad with no battery, (but with brand new SSD).
Think that may constitute max protection with least impact and fuss of everything out there.

Just add imaging (Macrium Reflect preferred for me at least).

 

Back to what I had a decade ago , plus daily incrementals of Macrium Reflect, my most comprehensive security software.
Avira Pro and Shadow Defender resident.

 

Just removed Malwarebytes Browser Guard Chrome extension from the older, slower 7x64 machine I had it on. All of a sudden there was a degree of instability and general browsing weirdness happening, and removing Malwarebytes Browser Guard evened everything back out.

 

That's a good point - back to AdGuard!
