    Hello Everybody.

Some people on this forum know me as a CEO at www.AVLab.pl. Today I would like to present you our new brand it known as CheckLab. The website is available at domain https://checklab.pl/en

The CheckLab organization was founded in July 2019 by the AVLab.pl company. The primary objective of the CheckLab organization is to test security usefulness, and issuing certificates confirming the protection effectiveness against malware, and also provide results to public information while ensuring the maximum transparency of the tests. There is so much additional information related to tests so we have decided to prepare a supporting website.

You can read more how we carry out the tests and the making of CheckLab, a website dedicated to security tests at https://checklab.pl/en/publications

Description about whole methodology and used tools: https://checklab.pl/en/methodology

The tests lasted the whole July 2019 and were based on testing security of the following software:
    • AVIRA Antivirus Pro
    • EMSISOFT Business Security
    • F-SECURE Total
    • G DATA Endpoint Protection Business
    • G DATA Total Security
    • KASPERSKY Endpoint Security Cloud Protection
    • SECUREAPLUS Premium
    • The eighth product was not included in the official results.
We present the newest results for tested antivirus products in July 2019: https://checklab.pl/en/recent-results

Hello and congrats on starting new business.

Interesting to see such difference between two G Data products.
I guess that eighth product didn't do very well since it's not included in official results?

Not quite. In the FAQ section (https://checklab.pl/en/frequently-asked-questions) we explained it:

If you think your solution is not fully developed or you are afraid of getting low evaluation, you can join the test for a trial period. The protection results will not be made available to the public. In addition, we will provide you with the necessary details to help improve the effectiveness of your product's protection.

    From your FAQ...
Why do you use this elaborate procedure? Why don't you test off the shelf products - the same products that users purchase - and then rate them accordingly. This procedure looks as if you have to prepare for a geometry exam without having to know anything about algebra or any other area of mathematics.

No Eset in this test? Or was that the "eighth product not included in the results?"

It's not true. See more at https://checklab.pl/en/how-to-get-certificate and click "view example indicators". Such of information we need from every producers. The methodology is not complicated for us. Thanks for this information, we can automate tests.

At a higher level of testing, contact with the producers is needed. The vendors must be able to verify everything. For example, everyone will ask you for logs for the samples being tested. You must prove that the threat has been or has not been blocked. You must show network logs, logs from system changes. In addition, if someone asks you to verify that the AV has a connection to the producer cloud, you must prove it. Home tests by amateurs do not require this. There are many aspects that a normal user does not know about. Professional tests are a really complicated thing.

This is hard work, but the methodology we have developed is probably unique. I have not encountered another lab verifying the effectiveness of protection in such a way. It is also difficult for people like you, but at the same time it is easy method for us. And very effective.

Please give us some time. We can't test all products at the same time :|

Wait, isn't checklab a subsidiary/spin-off of AVLab? If yes, then why does CheckLab exist when AVLab is already conducting tests?

Exactly. We did it. Thank you for asking.

AVLab only carry out 1 to 2 tests per year. Separation of tests from AVLab and create a new organization had an business image and technical background. Vendors can now get new rewards from another organization with a new type of testing.

At AVLab we will focus on informational and education content, as we have been doing since 2012. We will transfer the burden of automatic tests to CheckLab.

Nothing will change for our readers at AVLab. In business, it is common when one company creates a new product brand. We did the same. We can perform different testing with two brands.

So, will AVLab's tests remain separate or will they just use CheckLab's results and data now (or, AVLab commissions tests carried out by CheckLab)??

As covered in a prior discussion, I assume you have no intention of joining AMTSO and adhering to their testing standards?

Will be separate. CheckLab is focused on automate and comparative tests only. At AVLab we can prepare individual tests, reviews and tests requiring a manual checking many things.

I think that we have good standard testing. Otherwise, nobody would like to take part in the tests. Besides as I know the joining to AMTSO still is very expensive. At least $3000 each year for small company.

My opinion is that the results should become more clear, it's now too complex.

Some interesting malware samples in this test. The one I was reviewing was definitely sleeper malware. Looks like there is finally a source that will show "real" capability of an AV solution.
