OSarmor is nothing else than a HIPS and not needed for regular windows use. (same for ReHIPS). but this thread is about sandboxie

Well, it would be a pity. Because Sandboxie is unique software. It's not just a tool to protect browsers, it's also about the ability to run all kinds of software without messing up your real system. BTW, I was thinking, since most browsers already have their own sandboxing system, perhaps they could make a Sandboxie version that only virtualizes file and registry changes. I hope Sophos will be able to sell Sandboxie to some other software company.

Hello, Ronen? This is Sophos. How about we sell your baby back to you, real cheap? :D

LOL, that would be cool. I'm willing to give up my lifetime license and start paying a yearly fee. I believe Sandboxie is one of the few apps that are worth it.

Agree about a yearly fee, but I suspect part of the reason Ronen gave up was keeping up with the Win 10 "fixes"

No not really, because I believe he sold Sandboxie before Win 10 was even launched, but I may be wrong.

Correct, I just checked it. But now that I think of it, what if Sophos would restrict lifetime licenses to only one PC? This would mean that at least thousands of people would need to purchase a new yearly license. Or do they simply not have enough customers for SBIE?

BTW, Sandboxie would have come in handy to protect against this exploit. It would isolate the RAT, but you would still need to combine it with an anti-logger/HIPS in case the RAT managed to run inside the sandbox. And yes I know, this exploit was only used on Mac computers, but this stuff can also happen on Windows as we all know.

In Windows the RAT would have been dropped into a user space directory such as: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming so a HIPS or SRP alone, properly configured, would prevent the payload from even executing. Of course a properly configured Sandboxie should both contain it and also prevent its executing. All I'm trying to suggest is both defenses together are not needed.

    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\
    =
    %USERPROFILE%
    only which includes %appdata%, %temp% and %localappdata%

ofc this would affect google chrome with its local installation.
a sandbox limited to firefox.exe only, not really - for me - because of printing and more.
hips is not for unexperienced users.

to notice - the linked 0day was fixed. stupids who use outdated builds.

Let me guess? It'll go something like this :p

"We are Sophos. You will be assimilated, existence as you know it is over. We will add your technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile..."

With the issues with Sophos and their problems with Sanboxie the website and support I have a question,
In 122 days when SandBoxie needs to check my license will it not register and work ?
Has anyone had issues with the license check with a lifetime license? 2019-08-31_17-13-04.png

Good to know, hopefully reactivating SandBoxie's license in the future will not be an issue.

Two days until we get their epic answers. What are your toughts on what they will be responding.

    Will they blame legacy code?
Will they blame a contracted company?
    Will they blame Ronen?
Will they blame abuse of the forums?
    Will they blame themselves?
    Will they blame society?

Find out on the next episode of Sandboxie - Abandonware In Progress!
