No offense, but that bank was running win 10. Probably doesn't matter much to the victims which vector was used to get their data.

There is no perfect with no flaws SO, but Windows 10 is much better than Windows XP in the security area and this is a fact not an opinion.

So no, most criticisms of Win XP doesnt apply to all Windows versions.

As to your main point (XP is not safe for most folks ... win 10 is more secure) I agree.

But consider these persuasion points from this topic:
"You already might be infected, some deeply hidden malware may already have you."
"These things are designed to be stealthy, so how do you know you aren't infected now?"
"You're OS might be penetrated any time now."
"Some other vector was used to compromise that bank, wasn't the banks fault."
"You may be spreading this infection to all of us as we speak."
Those points apply to every windows OS I know about, and the linux ones.
Further, such suggestions shift the burden of proof to the writer..

To be sure, I'm a single user with plenty of time and not much money, and maybe the least tekkie member here.
But the point is that the OS is only one small part of online safety.
Imho, a multilayered approach which includes a responsible bank, some sensibility in the user, and careful attention to what you do.
I expect win xp will soon exit the stage, but it won't be because it can't be used safely, but rather for two reasons:
    1. Nobody wants to fool with it any more, and
    2. Microsoft really wants it to fade away.

The local HMO IT told me their primary tools are a file integrity checker, plus a hardware firewall, plus scans by endpoint AVs, and some sort of isolation system (I have no idea what that means and he seemed reluctant to go into details).
