Maybe you should get one. You come up with some interesting questions. You have me researching now how this is being run. :D :argh:

Other then it being really lightweight on the system I don't feel Webroot has much going for it. Plenty of free av solutions out there that provide equal if not better protection for free.

I think you're overestimating me, Sherry. I have no idea if I'm right, heck I don't even have a Mac. I'm just trying to extrapolate from the information you and PTD have helpfully provided us and attempting to make logical conclusions..

Seems weird, WSA with traditional sigs not cloud-based, and lacking journaling and rollback— if that is indeed a correct analysis of the situation with WSA for Macs.

    Hi @Muddy3,

As @ProTruckDriver said which I agree that you come up with alot of great questions and these questions usually mean researching more because of the lack of a Mac Expert on the Webroot Forum. It was Daniel @Triple Helix who discovered. I believe, found out that Webroot on the Mac uses signatures definitions which led us to the lack of no Journaling and no Roll back features.

It was a shock for all of us since this was misleading after all the years of running Webroot on my/our Macs. ProTruckDriver (Dave) also has incrediable questions for the Mac & Mac Beta since he bought a new Mac years ago.

Wanderingbug (Devin) was our Mac expert and he could help us answer them. But now we have to Submit a Support Ticket to Webroot to get our questions answered and then they can be vague.

So looking into the Mac is a challenge to understand how Webroot functions. o_O
EDITED: AND how the Mac works..

I don't think it's possible to have a roll back feature on a Mac with Webroot or any other third party software because of the way the MacOS operates. You know how Apple is.
    I'm still researching. :D

No thanks, PTD! I have enough trouble getting my PCs to behave the way I want them to, let alone contending with a Mac as well .

Added to which, I run my home budget on a shoestring :gack:.

On the other hand, if you're offering to buy me one... :D:D

Yes, I kind of grasped that from your past comments.

    @ProTruckDriver

Sorry, I guess ProTruckDriver brought this Definition/Cloud Based issue up as well in the Webroot Community.

Note that Norton benefits—according to your interpretation—from at least as many "mutual friendly gifts" as Webroot*, yet their ratings are no way near as high in the PCMag Customer Satisfaction Survey.

*see all of Rubenking's reviews for both AVs over many years

Come to that, Malwarebytes which—again, according to your interpretation—has been suffering from a dearth of "mutual friendly gifts" with Rubenking over the last few years, came second to top in the AV listing in the PCMag Customer Satisfaction Survey.

Looking at your posts in this thread over the last few days, I observe that, as Baldrick astutely observed, they all seem to be based on evidence-free assertions rather than on hard verifiable facts. Sad :(.

At Webroot castle, residents will use pitchforks and torches to defend it against all enemies, real or imaginary. Some of them will invoke the Ghost of PrevX, who still roams the halls, to make things right again.

Again, your conjecture & take on things...where is the evidence/proof in what you say? Without that this is just opinion...but said in a way to try to make people believe that you know. So prove it.

If you search for reviews about hips-based software, he states
    Cons
"Warns about good and bad programs alike."
Even though, that's what hips are supposed to do.

This is known since ages lol
No need to prove, when i do a statement it is based on fact i gathered after researching or using products, if i don't, i wont state like i dont use BD , i dont talk about it.
Anyway it is funny to see you defend a webroot defender LOOOL, your love webroot is unlimited , i give you that hahahaha

and this it is what I was talking about, the noob put the whole mechanism as a con, loooooool and people follow his review like it is the sacred truth...

Spyshelter and other HIPS are among the most solid mechanism, sure very cryptic for beginners so he can't even handle it , he even admit he clicks deny without knowing why there is an alert LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

As i said before, PCMag is for beginners, Rubenking is an above beginner but no more, the softs he reviews prioritize usage by beginners, usability is first, security well...he loves webroot LOL

You follow PCMag is the same as going to your mall and asking about an AV to the guy selling underwears...

I don't know why people get so defensive about Webroot. There are tens of different antiviruses for Windows, but it seems that Webroot is just about the only one with die-hard fans, who feel the need to constantly stick up for it. I find this strange, when there are other antiviruses which offer much better protection. While some of them are heavier when Webroot, some of them are just as light and also won't slow down your system.

I'm not trying to bash Webroot and I really hope that not only it does not get discontinued, but also that it gets better detection rates. If you're happy with it and you don't get infected, then that's certainly reason enough to keep using it. But there's absolutely nothing special about Webroot that will make it provide better protection than other top performing antiviruses.

I will leave it to posters more qualified than I to address the points you make in your latest post, @guest (though I fail to see how, for the average user like myself —to whom Rubenking's reviews are presumably targeted—his summary Cons: Warns about good and bad programs alike is anything but a fair reflection of his conclusion "What I see here is that SpyShelter puts you, the user. in charge of deciding which of its warnings to heed ... I'm not a fan of forcing these decisions on the user. Without deep knowledge to back the decision, some users will just click Deny every time, thereby causing problems for valid programs").

As for the rest, sadly your posts over the last few days have been filled with nothing but evidence-free bile. For example, I responded to one of your posts by citing a PCMag Customer AV Ratings Survey. For some reason known only to you, you answered by making the slanderous charge that Rubenking's reviews are "all about mutual friendship gifts". Apart from the sheer audacity of such an egregious and totally evidence-free comment, what on earth have Rubenking's reviews to do with a Customer AV Ratings Survey??

Imho your comments over the last few days demean the whole purpose of this Forum.

And btw @roger_m , you appear to think we should be silent lambs in the face of such bile. Weird :(.

Not at all. There just is an ongoing pattern where, whenever anyone criticises Webroot, long term users always defend it, rather than admitting that there may be some truth in what has been said and that there are things Webroot could do better. I spend a lot of time here and at MalwareTips and I don't (for the most part) see the same behaviour for any other antivirus.

Yes, but frankly I have not see so many vicious attacks on an AV (and particularly at MalwareTips), indeed upon any product of any sort that I have ever come across in my entire life . It frankly amazes me.

@roger_m a home user being emotionally attached to a soft isn't even rational,
i didn't spare Cylance, Comodo (i was a big fan), etc.., etc...
unlike others here, when i see something I use or like going south , i don't deflect or stay quiet (especially with my favorite softs, i hit harder than others, and webroot was one of them)
But webroot's fanboys are people who deny the obvious and are those who helped it to goes down. How many users ditch WRSA because of their toxic replies.

Webroot Forum beta tester private section, i was the one that requested it, it was implemented years after and for what? for some people that has no clue of what testing is, just installing a beta then posting after 5mn "no issues so far" loooool
Webroot's devs didnt even participated there, no changelogs, nothing, that show the management really doesnt care of its users...no wonder WRSA is a failure.

The 2 big updates issues? how it is possible if you have serious beta testing group ?

Then use hard facts rather than the evidence-free bile you currently throw at us.

Also you still haven't answered my question why, if it's going south as you say, it is still so popular with pros:
On the enterprise side, the endpoint security business — and associated MSP channel — is growing "well into the double digits, north of 20 percent"

Indeed, silence is often among the very best ways to end a pointless disagreement before it degenerates into name-calling between friends.
