Honestly I don't really need WD, but since it is built-in, i rather use and tighten it than any 3rd party AVs.
I did disable it entirely but it was inconvenient.

@guest Is it still slow for you on access to directories with many exes, that you complained about in the past? (I could imagine e.g. a directory with many portables).

Didn't check recently, but it is noticeable in a folder with lot of installers, since they are bigger.

Hello Mac, nice to see you again here.

Windows Defender is running fine on my machine, the performance improved a lot and I didnt encounter any false positives until now, it is a great solution that doesnt downgrade your browser security features and doesnt annoy you.

About Windows 10 security in general, nowadays is hard to see a infected machine in a up to date W10 machine running with WD enabled.

Self Defense stop this malicious tampering:

This Trickbot needs administrative rights and needs manual input to bypass UAC to perform this malicious tampering, so I dont see this as an issue.

Ps: If the malware has administrative rights it can do malicious tampering with any antivirus solution anyway.

Trickbot alone isn't so powerful, but deploy it as part of a exploitation chain, then it is another story.

    Hello Night, thank you!

Yes, you are right. The best part of the improvement of WD is its general performance and fantastic true protection against all types of malware on the always changing Windows 10 service. Together with its perfect compatibility with the system, you know that you won't be caught in a sudden mess because of an unknown incompatibility by using a 3rd party product, a very common annoyance.

Let's hope WD keep going on the right track :)

    Hugs, Night

I will certainly go with Microsoft Defender in a year time, however it is not a matter of choosing what is the best AV at the moment, but rather having any good AV as an extra layer. I use my laptop as a tool to browse the internet, download what I need to and quickly transfer any important data to my 4 USB hard drives (8 Terabytes) which are disconnected from my computer most of the time and therefore resilient to any possible hacking.

Adding Macrium Image Guardian to my frequent incremental backups, I like to think that my system and data are well protected. In this context Microsoft Defender would be the logical choice.

Good to see you posting again my friend.

I guess if it ever happens it would be similar to IE case in EU. They will have to offer other AV solutions and user will have to decide which one to install, 3rd party or MD.

Yes correct. Because you can say what you want, but this trend must be hurting third party AV's. Why would the masses bother to switch if Win Def is already doing a good job? On the other hand, macOS is also offering standard security tools. Would be an interesting lawsuit for sure.

I found the EU case against microsoft for IE stupid. Microsoft never forced anyone to use IE they just included a browser with the operating system. Apple didn't allow any third party browser on IOS in the early stages which was anti competitive but nothing ever happened with it.

I am not sure how you can complain about a company wanting to protect their operating system. Microsoft isn't forcing you to use windows defender.

I think a lot of the EU lawsuits are as much of a cash grab as anything else.

They are more forcing you to use Defender than they did IE or Windows Media Player. I am surprised there hasn't been more legal issues than what we have seen so far.
