I don't have it installed, but from memory, you should have a tab where you can add processes/programs.
I used to add MS Office's ones, etc...

    • Go to right-hand sidebar in Webroot GUI
    • Click cog icon to right of Identity Protection
    • Click Application Protection tab
    • Click + Add Protection button (in bottom right-hand corner)
    • Browse and select the application you wish to add
    • Select the Protect radio button (if not already selected)
    Hope that helps.

I still await a major release -- any real signs of life & renewed innovation -- & I will again be a WRSA user with grrreat gusto.

Agreed! Webroot needs to bring it to the table, but it seems with the recent shake-up at Carbonite, we might be waiting a longer for any fundamental (or incremental) change to the product.

There will never be any Major Releases as they work to a road map, an as I said ScriptShield and still no sign of a Anti-Exploit feature they been talking about for over a year.

Yep a few years ago running El Capitan and High Sierra Webroot for Mac worked perfectly. Now with Mojave too many problems. :(

The latest test results at av-test were really bad.

The thing is dead, it was bad already and survived only via fancy statements and marketing tricks. Had to wait 10 years to get script protection which is in beta for months... i guess all the devs are secretly applying for a job elsewhere lol.

Many know how much I dislike AVs and other real time scanners, but i have more trust and would use 1000 times Windows Defender or Emsisoft than Webroot...

I think once the dust settles, things will become more clear. On the whole, it seems that Carbonite's acquisition of Webroot has done them more good than harm. However, as guest has pointed out, there needs to be substantive results. I casually scroll through Reddit about Webroot and have talked to a few guys who work for MSPs, and I think as long as people are happy on the corporate end with Webroot, it probably won't go anywhere. But if another snafu comes about, well, you could probably stick a fork in it.

Prevx was way ahead of its time. It seems like these smaller developers were acquired all the time by bigger companies. Maybe that's their original desire when they start these smaller companies, which is certainly fine. But it escapes me if any of these programs were ever improved upon after being acquired. For the longest time it seems they were either watered down and integrated into some security suite or simply abandoned or discontinued. Most of the security companies - Symantec, AVG, Trend Micro, etc. - have bought out some smaller company and promised all these great things to come. Then it would all end the same way. Maybe the lone exception would be when MS acquired Giant and eventually turned that into today's Windows Defender or whatever they call it these days. Maybe there are a few others that were either improved upon on, or, at least, survived.

Speaking as someone who has used Prevx for five years and Webroot now for eight, in my opinion Webroot has improved upon Prevx. That is to say, it has remained entirely true to Prevx's original concept, but has been able to use its larger size as a company to develop aspects that Prevx was unable to do, due to its limited human resources as a tiny company.

EDIT: the problem with Webroot for Mac, referred to above, is another and separate issue :doubt:

It wouldn't be an issue if Webroot would hire some Mac Experts in the company. It has been noticed that with every upgrade on the Mac OS the scan time gets longer. El Capitan - 10 minutes, High Sierra - 20 to 25 minutes, Mojave - 45 minutes to 1 hour. Apple has macOS Catalina coming out this fall which will be a new ball game. Will the scan time increase or decrease? Backup and Sync is another problem on the Mac, it doesn't work on my Mac or it works when it wants to on other Mac computers like on @SSherjj Mac running El Capitan. Spinning Beach balls sometimes when hovering over the Webroot icon in the menu bar. I'm not here to bash Webroot, it was a damn good product for the Mac computer when they had people (Mac Experts) on the Webroot Forum and in Support. IMO now, Support for Webroot for Mac does not exist anymore. Hopefully this will change with the new CEO.

Another thing with the Mac client it's not a full cloud AV and still has definitions unlike for the Windows client and even the Android client and yes Webroot needs Mac experts in the development department. I don't think Webroot is dead by any means and in reality most users would not see the Malware used in Testing as I have many happy clickers using it without any infections.

I asked Support about the "Full Cloud AV" and "Journaling Rollback Feature" on a Mac and as Daniel posted it is not "Full Cloud" This was part of the reply from Support

This is the thing that many people can't get their heads round. Webroot performs poorly in the tests but in real life usage it performs well. I am the proof—as are countless others. I used to be a happy clicker (I hope I no longer am :doubt:) and would continually get infected with other AVs. Since changing to Prevx/Webroot, that stopped dead. From day one.

Infected every 3 to 6 months or so before. Never knowingly infected since changing to Prevx/Webroot some 13 years ago.
PTD or TH, do you know if Webroot for Mac has an Unknown status for files, like the other Webroot versions, or if it simply sorts into Good or Bad? And if it does, does it have any way of monitoring and/or restricting the privileges of those Unknown files?

If you're talking about the Unknown / Monitoring in the Webroot log as with Webroot for PC. My answer would be NO. Unlike the Webroot for PC where files are Unknown / Monitored the Mac version I don't believe works that way. When you reboot a PC with WSA on it the Unknown files are still in the Webroot log and if the files are being monitored before the reboot they will still be monitored after the reboot. On a Mac it doesn't work that way. When you reboot a Mac it clears the log and you start with a fresh log just like a clean install.

Is there perhaps another place in Webroot, apart from the log file, that keeps a record of which files are Unknown?? And what about, for example, Control Active Processes?

Trying to get answers to Webroot for Mac is very hard. I still have unanswered questions on the Webroot forum that I posted many months ago. This is the Support Ticket I sent to Support in February asking questions about Webroot for Mac.
    From Support:
Second Answer from Support 11 minutes later:
    My reply to Support:
    Answer from Support:
Bottom line: Webroot NEEDS a Mac Expert so we can get answers and get the bugs fixed all those on the Mac Beta team. I believe it's been almost 3 years now that Webroot hasn't had a Mac Expert. Devin (Wanderingbug) was the last Mac Expert on the forum. When he was there questions were answered. He worked with you to fix bugs in the software. Not that way anymore sorry to say.
