well, as @mood said, the key combination in my previous post is "ctrl + ⇧ + j", not "ctrl + j". there is a "⇧" between "ctrl" and "j".

thats right, but now you got 2 voices who said "it can", but not with ease.
uM is here a cookie blocker (read out) and xhr (popup) and less allow frames. it do not handle any list, thats done by uBo.

 

It's starting happening again. Firefox home page just won't load while uBO is enabled. As soon as I disable uBO the page loads. Guess I'll have to use ABP instead.

Just curious, what's the advantage of AdGuard over ABP?

I disabled the built-in adblocker on my VPN and it seems to have improved things.

Note to those reading, I wasn't using my VPN when this first started.

 

Long long time ago, before UBlock appeared, i used ABP, it works decently but was slow and heavy, then I shifted to Adguard extension then desktop, which have enough lists to block all ads. Then I never used anything else.

Just trial the extension and see if it fits you.

I have more trust on adguard than any other adblocker vendors, they know what they are doing.

To compare, Adguard is the Kaspersky of adblockers.
UBlock would be Avast or Avira.

 

Yeah, but both sentences are a contradiction in terms. How can disabling the adblocker in your VPN improve things although you ran into your problems while not using your VPN?

This said, I don't see why uBO itself should be the culprit. We don't know which filterlists you're using / you've (manually) added to the default lists. Have you tried disabling one list after the other to determine of one of them might cause the trouble?

you mean "kaspersky" with all its flaws? ok, avast and other could be more worse^^
from my view - guest wrote about Adguard Premium, not the browser extension.
for my needs ublock is working in any browser, adguard premium additional in my android phone.
adguard is limited in its settings - either on or off for sites. when i have to refine that i need an additional browser filter.
for android adguard is off for firefox with ublock - would lead into filtering trouble.
but in uBo i use adguard lists - could be vice versa. depends on some one needs

Disabling uBO makes a huge and noticeable difference.

 

Simple comparison with Kaspersky:

Adguard offers a paid powerful solution as main solution and a "lesser" free option for those who just need basic adblocker. Not saying it is Russian if I'm not wrong.

uBO is a free "one-man shop" (it seems) product, obviously effective but I have just more faith in Adguard development quality and adblocking capacities .

Used it since years and never failed me.
One of the few softs I continuously betatest and I never had to report anything in years. Can't say that for others.

That said, Raymond Hill is still a force to be dealt with in terms of his brilliant mastery of browsers in general. uMatrix anyone? I've only just started to check around but have yet to find any recent empirical testing evidence to merit making the switch to Adguard. If your suggestion includes (in your experience) that Adguard plays nicer with VPN's that would be great to know.

 

Completely agree on this. µBO is a powerful and fully adjustable feature pack that can be made as lightweight & fast as you like, depending on how you like to use it, e.g. ~ 20,000+/- filters in medium mode as fast as anything you put it up against!

 

20000+ filters...personally i don't see the usefulness, i bet there is tons of overlaps...

 

Duplicate filters are discarded in uBO

 

I have AdGuard Premium, but my personal preference for controlling ads when browsing on my laptops is uBO in medium mode, as it has the simplicity and granularity I want.
Though I also use uMatrix on my test laptop, it does get too 'finicky' for me.

The level of control depends on the users requirements and expertise.

That said, AdGuard has additional features with it's stealth mode, and it works well on my Android phone.
