In SeaMonkey (current 2.49.4) I use NoScript 5.1.9. I know there is NoScript v10 and v11 for some newest edition of Firefox. I don't think SeaMonkey is on the same Firefox engine at this point. I googled looking for information whether SeaMonkey is supported in the new NoScript. Can't find a thing. Can't even find a NoScript download place. I'm lost. If I do find it, how to handle installing? Disable or remove 5.1.9 or install on top? I hope someone here can suggest me what to do. Or to do nothing.
Hi act8192. I am not really familiar as of right now with SeMonkey, but I can take this like a game, and try to see what I find out, to help you. Give me the correct link to get the official SeaMonkey, and the link for NoScript 5.1.9 that you have currently installed. I can search but I rather use the links you can provide. Now, more than likely, since NS 5.1.9 is working with your version of SM, then I doubt NoScript 10 would also work with your version of SM. Is probably, one or the other that works with SM. You cant really choose. Also, if I remember correctly. NoScript 10 started with Firefox 57. So, SeaMonkey would have to be at least current with that version of Firefox for NoScript 10 to work on it. Seamonkey 2.49.4 is based on Firefox (ESR) 52.x -- NoScript is requiring Firefox 59.x or higher. You need to stay on NoScript "Classic" v5.1.9
I suspected as much, and mood confirms. Thank you for your offer to install things, but clearly no point. I like what I read about it in an old thread. Oh, well, at least I can be lazy and do nothing for now.
Many thanks. I appreciate the clear version detail you gave me. When SeaMonkey issues an update, how will I know when to switch out of 5.1.9? When it stops working? Will SeaMonkey tell us they make a change based on Firefox 59.x?
When SeaMonkey makes the change to WebExtensions, you will know. When Firefox updated to version 57 (first Firefox version to use NoScript 10 ), the switch from version 5 to 10 was seamless. If its done the same way in SeaMonkey, when you check for Extension updates or if its done automatically by the browser, the new version will show up, you ll install it, and after restarting the browser, you ll have version 10. Your settings will be kept as you have them at the time you updated. Out of my 2 computers, on one the update (as I described) went perfect, in the other one, something got corrupted. But it was east to fix. Perhaps, just try to be aware of when SM will become based on Firefox 57. Also, keep copies of your settings, in case you are not doing it. Doing one, once in between long whiles is more than plenty. Bo
