    pb1,

Can you post a screenshot of DS "Select the volumes you want to save" screen?

    MBR or UEFI system?

Great. Thanks. You must backup the first 4 partitions. They are essential for a restore if there is a drive failure. I assume you will also have the backup copied to an external drive in case the internal drive fails.

Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and select the first 4 partitions.

    Follow the $DISK instruction.

Yes i know that, but as i said i want to backup the first 5 partitions and exclude the 6:th one, that seems to be impossible. All/everything or 4 seems to be the case.

I misunderstood. Then use CTRL to select 5 partitions.

    Edit... I have 25 partitions. I can select 4, 5, 6...10...20 or 25.

    I figured it out.

Another thing. Besides the inbuilt boot function i want to have one also on a usb stick. I remember that i tested that with information on how to do it from this thread with something that was fast. Or maybe another thread. Anyway, the discussion was about effectiveness and speed, and someone had a speedier way/program on a usb when booting from the same. I tested it then and came to the same result.

Now i cant remember where or what info i found. Do you have a clue?
Anyone who knows what i am talking about do feel free to comment.

If you want to do backups from a script...

    Code:
    snapshot64.exe HD1:1+HD1:2+HD1:3+HD1:4+HD1:5 "K:\DS_backups\$DISK.sna" -R -L0 --UseVSS
    K:\ is the backup drive.

    Wouldn't know @mantra.

We in this camp on this end are off 10, hopefully for good. Now for all Windows 8.1 units there is never been so much as a burp when restoring and done countless many on that platform and still can although it's been awhile since 8.1 runs like a mega-machine free of update interruptions or other issues. Sorry wish I could address 10 for you. Perhaps others can and will.

    Ok. It was this - https://malwaretips.com/threads/if-you-like-drive-snapshot-here-is-the-fix.61533/. Post # 3.
But this time i also tried Aomei`s PE builder and that was even better. Nice also to create it the way you want it.

    NO-I have not.

But that is an absolutely fabulous idea @mantra.
For certain there must be a no frills way for us to be able to accomplish that feat with DS.

    Thanks pb1
Yes, the Aomei PE builder looks interesting.
    'AOMEI PE Builder
Tiny utility to create bootable USB flash drive, CD/DVD, ISO file to boot computer without booting local system.'
I find the bit about not having to download AIK WAIK
Installation interesting. No AIK/WAIK Installation Required

'To create a Windows PE media, typically you have to pre-install Windows AIK or WAIK, or prepare a Windows installation disc. Luckily, AOMEI PE Builder allows you to create a Windows PE boot disk without installing AIK/WAIK. It will save your valuable time and energy!'
I think AOMEI PE Builder can be downloaded here as Freeware.

I haven't tried it. What did you particularly like about AOMEI PE Builder pb1?

For the newcomer to these things a 'PE' is a Preinstallation Environment
