Thanks everyone for your help, it is possible that the problem might be due to a particular configuration of my computer, although the security in my signature hasn't changed for many years. If I ever find out why this is happening I will certainly post it here a.s.a.p.

For the record, I have uninstalled Avira Pro, Sandboxie, Macrium Reflect Windows boot menu, and re-installed SD virtually on a pristine Windows 10, but the problem persists...

Yesterday, rebooting out of a shadow mode session of about 2 hours took almost 5 minutes. I proceeded to take an incremental with Macrium, which failed notifying me that it couldn't close the vss snapshot, and therefore it had to abort the whole operation. I then restored the last incremental and everything was fine in terms of boot speed and all.

My conclusion: Shadow Defender sometimes (it happened twice in the past after downloading heavy files) somehow damages/affects the boot sequence significantly , to the point of stopping Macrium from creating new backups. A sad day, uninstalled SD until a new version is available... For the time being I think I will use Sandboxie and Macrium more carefully to replace SD.

I also think that to use a software without any support whatsoever, and expect it to work flawlessly for years on end is wishful thinking. It is a pity, as I would say, SD has been my favourite security program for many years... It still works perfectly on my Vista machine.

Using latest version, I'm facing issues on W8.1 too not worth to mention here, sorry.

Anyone knows the last working good version for W8.1?

there are more than (at least) a dozen members here that use both mac-ref & sd, and seems you're the only one reported an incompatibility. odd.

If I'm the only one having these problems, be it, I have explained in detail why I have reached my conclusion. I'd be very happy to belong to the crowd of happy campers...

I might, but ever since I've had Macrium Reflect full version which allows restores as quickly as 3 minutes, I want to try this approach first...

Remove the MR integration from the boot menu, reboot and re-integrate the MR into the boot menu. Such actions solved a similar problem for me with a long exit from the shadow mode.
Creating an image in MR while in shadow mode is a bad idea.
Windows 10 v1809 x64 and Windows 8.1 x64, no problem using SD, exit from the shadow is 5-10 seconds.

I appreciate your feedback, but the same problem had happened in the past without MR boot menu being installed. I have never created an image whilst in shadow mode (and never would), besides, something is really strange as SD's counter of used space is not working... I just wish that the developer might read some of these posts as Windows is changing quickly these days.

I like this program, I was one of the early users, but so far I had too many disruptions which defy the very purpose of using it. Time will tell.

Sure I did and rest assured I'm not a n00b for this matter. In fact, I googled looking for other versions too and found them but this one. Bad luck or I missed that result, don't know. I always do so before disturbing anyone on forums.

    Thanks for your help.

OK, no problem. Google can produce different results for different regions.

Good lord, I see what happened. It's a Youtube hit that Google yields. I saw it a number of times I dismissed cause many times I look for anything, such Youtube posts contain empty/broken/malicious links.

so do anyone experience the .reloc file code contained in SD?
it is a warning by hitman pro, with early warning scoring, should I be worried or is it normal?

I have the paid version of SD since at least 8 years...never had a problem before, but yesterday I had a crash while in shadow mode. Uninstalled it, reboot and work with the computer for one hour, no problems. After reinstalling SD, same problem again! I guess I will leave it uninstalled for now...:(

Sorry to hear that. I understand how you must feel being a SD user myself.
I guess you've looked all the things you can think of that might have caused it, updates etc?

    Hi stapp,
Yes this is sad, SD has been a good and trusted companion for so many years. Well, really nothing else I can think of that might have caused the crash beside the new Windows 10o_O Anyway I don't think I feel game to reinstalled it now...the problem is that there is no real replacement, I think?:doubt:
