Where did you find a 7 year deal? To be fair, Symantec have always honoured their licenses so hopefully that shouldn't change.
Here's how the story started... I was at a local computer shop and these shops usually sell very cheap boxed versions of AVs/security suites so I grabbed a box of Norton Antivirus Basic for $15 USD I went home and installed it and loved how light it was with no bloat so I renewed it for 1 year for 20 bucks through the online shopping portal, then I got tempted, I dunno what went into me, I kept renewing it again and again until I reached a validity until the year 2026 then I was like ok that's enough.
Looks like the Broadcom purchase is a done deal. https://www.zacks.com/stock/news/43...ec?cid=CS-MKTWTCH-HL-437797&mod=mw_quote_news
I'll sit back and see what happens after the deal. Symantec may get "What Goes Around Comes Around" for all the companies Symantec acquired stripped and threw away. But we will see what happens. It should be interesting.
I'm not surprised by this. They have been selling Norton v22 for years now. I'd say their current development efforts have been dead for a while. Either this will restart things or end them. At least in my speculation.
I personally believe that Broadcom must have lost its mind. Didn't they learn anything about the flopped deal between Intel and McAfee? Just stick to the semiconductor business.
Broadcom Moves Forward on Symantec Acquisition https://www.darkreading.com/endpoint/broadcom-moves-forward-on-symantec-acquisition/d/d-id/1335162
The local endpoint agent version isn't as important as the R&D and advancements that take place on the cloud side, i.e., ML improvements, file classification, etc. If you're curious, i'd suggest reading some of their research whitepapers that go into the technologies that are part of their backend. For anyone interested: https://www.symantec.com/about/corporate-profile/technology/research-labs/papers - The paper about malicious singletons is one of the more interesting recent ones, imo.
Symantec, Broadcom cease deal negotiations: CNBC July 15, 2019 https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...om-cease-deal-negotiations-cnbc-idUSKCN1UA1G6
Anyone use the Norton package provided by Comcast? Is it the whole suite? Can you choose to just install the basic anti-virus portion?
If I was using Norton, I wouldn’t junk it. Old news. Deal has been nixed, if I understand correctly. Norton is one of the best out there. See here.... https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/
Maybe so..... when my Kaspersky licenses expire, (21 days) I’ve got a nice 15 month license for Norton available. No fear in using it!
