    Lawmakers live in their own little la-la land.

    No company without some serious goverment ties/contracts would
    willingly comply. It would be a financial suicide because if found out, people would avoid cripled (no encryption or encryption with backdoor) platforms/apps like plague.

    As would also the real bad guys. And they could also hire a programmer to cook simple, in-house developed software for themselves only. Net is literally filled with freely available, open source encryption protocols/libraries and also public research papers about various encryption schemes.

    They can legislate all they want. The problem will not go away with new laws.
