Thankfully I have zero need for social media networks like facebook, zero need for the idiot box called TV, and since I ditched that thing years ago there's been absolutely zero regret. So pleased I put privacy before these time wasting ventures and life is so much the sweeter for it.
Shame gravity lists on pi-hole haven't picked up any of my Sony tvs activity worth blocking. It blocks some echo analytics tho
Yes I confronted this problem 2 years ago when I wanted to by a new tv. I realised the only ones available were ‘smart’ tv’s. So my ‘smart’ tv is not connected to the internet.
Exactly, I don't see the problem. Simply use devices like Apple TV and Roku for streaming, and you won't have to worry about your TV being hacked, or being spied on by your TV.
Might work for now, until they start to implement mobile data connections like 3G, more and more 'Smart'/IoT devices are using it.
I've connected only Tivo to our older Samsung Smart TV. We need Tivo since we stream TV almost exclusively due to cost and extremely limited OTA channel availability. It is what it is, the world we live in.
I don't think it would work out-of-box, because somebody has to pay for data transfer over 3G/LTE/5G network. As a last resort you can physically remove antenna, thought you may break something inside your device and void warranty.
