Twitch Interactive Inc., the livestreaming platform owned by Amazon.com Inc, sued anonymous trolls who flooded the site last month with pornography, violent content and copyrighted movies and television shows.
Twitch says it works to remove offensive posts and ban the accounts of the users who post them, but that the videos quickly reappear, apparently posted by bots, while other bots work to drive users to the impermissible content.

The company said that if it learns the identities of the anonymous streamers who have abused its terms of service -- named in the lawsuit as “John and Jane Does 1-100” -- it will ask the court to prohibit them from using the platform and order them to pay restitution and damages.

Judge Stephen O'Driscoll noted that Arps, who runs a business in Christchurch, sent the video to 30 people, according to Associated Press. He also asked someone to add crosshairs and a kill count in an effort to create a meme, but there was no evidence he shared that.

The U.S. government filed a memorandum Monday in the Southern District of New York in the case against Joshua Adam Schulte, a former CIA software engineer accused of stealing classified national defense information, which then appeared on WikiLeaks.
The filing claims that Schulte "violated his bail conditions by accessing the internet ... illegally provided classified information to his family ... enlisted his family and other inmates to help him brazenly violate a protective order ... and even after the court admonished him, he doubled down and did it again."

Last year, Schulte was indicted on 13 counts, including the illegal transmission of lawfully possessed national defense information as well as three charges related to child pornography.
Schulte has pleaded not guilty. He faces up to 135 years in prison if convicted.

VidAngel ripped movies from DVD copies, and then streamed them to users with offensive content filtered out.
At trial, the studios asked the eight-member jury to impose the maximum penalty of $125 million for illegally streaming 819 movies, arguing that the company had willfully violated copyright law.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, Epic Games is suing a YouTuber who goes by the name CBV for allegedly selling cheats Fornite and ruining the game for other users.
The complaint titled "Epic Games, Inc. v. C.B." was filed in the North Carolina Eastern District Court and has been selected for mediation. As CBV is believed to be a minor, his identity has been sealed by the court, but is believed to be a resident of Illinois.

"Although he claims to “cheat for fun and entertainment, not to essentially steal from those that work hard at what they do,” Defendant uses the videos he creates to induce and enable others to cheat at Fortnite by demonstrating and promoting the hacks he sells, and directing would-be cheaters to websites where the hacks may be purchased," states Epic's complaint.

The complaint also says that CBV's actions are infringing on Epic's copyright by modifying the game code through the use of cheats and thus creating derivative works.

With little fanfare, the Covert Development and Disruption Team of the UK’s North West Regional Organised Crime Unit recently announced that there had been an arrest in connection with this kind of activity.

According to police, a 40-year-old man was detained in Winsford, Cheshire, following a joint investigation with anti-piracy outfit Federation Against Copyright Theft. The unit said that man was arrested in connection with creating and maintaining a Kodi add-on configured to supply illegal online streams.

“The scale of the offending was significant and affected broadcasters and rights owners in the UK and worldwide. Police searched an address, seized evidence, and interviewed the suspect has later been released on police bail pending investigation,” a statement reads.
Typically for this kind of announcement, details are scarce. Other than location and age, no further details were made available on the alleged offender, or the add-on that had triggered the referral from FACT.

The Jersey Journal reported last week that at least one Ferris High School student gained access to the system and reduced the number of sick days accumulated by nine students, making them eligible to graduate, be promoted to the next grade, or simply pass a class.
Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said the student was charged on June 18 with tampering the attendance records. The student’s name was withheld because the student is a minor.

As per ASIC, Steven Oakes gained unauthorized access to the private computer system of Melbourne financial publisher Port Phillip Publishing (PPP). By positioning himself within Wi-Fi range, he used hacking software known as Aircrack to intercept network data and steal employee credentials and share tips.
Oakes has been under investigation since 2015 when he ended up getting rid of all the evidence, but in 2016 he started cooperating with ASIC and pleaded guilty to 11 charges.

The five men and one woman were arrested in simultaneous warrants this morning at their homes in Charlcombe, Lower Weston and Staverton (UK) and Amsterdam and Rotterdam (the Netherlands).
The theft, which targeted users’ Bitcoin tokens, is believed to have affected at least 4 000 victims in 12 countries, with the numbers continuing to grow.

The investigation relates to typosquatting, where a well-known online cryptocurrency exchange was ‘spoofed’ – or recreated to imitate the genuine site - to gain access to victims’ Bitcoin wallets, stealing their funds and login details.

The German police yesterday raided the house of the developer of OmniRAT and seized his laptop, computer and mobile phones probably as part of an investigation into a recent cyber attack, a source told The Hacker News.
OmniRAT made headlines in November 2015 when its developer launched it as a legitimate remote administration tool for IT experts and companies to manage their devices with explicit permissions.

Though Kuwait Petroleum Company was not itself targeted by the malware, another anonymous source told The Hacker News that almost two months ago, lawyers representing the oil company started emailing the domain registrar from where the official domain of OmniRAT was registered and demanded them to disclose the identity of the domain owner, citing whois-related GDPR and ICANN rules.
At this moment, it's not clear if the raid by German police is linked to the efforts made by Kuwait Oil Company or involves some separate criminal case against him.

It's also possible that the German police could be behind the list and identity of all the customers who purchased OmniRAT in the last four years to crack down on cybercriminals abusing the tool.

In addition to the prison time, Chief U.S. District Judge Ricardo Martinez also fined Tran $50,000. Prosecutors previously recommended a maximum of three years in prison as part of the plea deal. Wire fraud is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

The vulnerability allowed the IT expert, named Petko Petrov, to download the details of 235,543 citizens of Stara Zagora, a province in central Bulgaria with over 333,000 inhabitants.

The video shows Petkov launch an automated attack against the local municipality's web portal where parents can sign up children for kindergarten, and using the security flaw to obtain data of Bulgarian citizens.
In a caption posted with the Facebook video, Petkov said he tried to contact the software maker and local authorities but was ignored.

Local prosecutors are still pending charges under Article 319A of the Bulgarian Criminal Code, on accusations of obtaining government information using illegal methods. If charged and found guilty, Petkov faces from one to three years in prison, and a fine of up to 5,000 Bulgarian leva ($2,900), according to local press [1, 2, 3, 4].

The 23-year-old, named only by his initials ‘JAF’, allegedly made up to €300,000 ($336,000) per month through a scam involving offers to sell consumer electronics products via fraudulent online stores.
These short-lived bogus stores made use of the logos and brand names of legal e-commerce outlets, including popular Spanish website Wallapop.

Victims were directed to send funds to bank accounts under the control of fraudsters, while support calls were routed to throwaway SIM numbers and ‘burner’ phones.
Traffic to these counterfeit stores was aggressively promoted using search engine poisoning techniques and high intensity advertising, authorities said.
The suspect was arrested at a downtown hotel in Madrid by police who seized computer equipment, more than 50 smartphones, and more than 100 prepaid SIM cards.
