In my opinion the 1% comes from problems caused by tweaking or hardening the system. I can do a clean install of any version of Windows and then run Windows Update repeatedly, until every available update is installed, except for some optional updates that I may choose not to install and nothing will get broken. Generally the worst that will happen is that I may occasionally get an error when installing an update and this is almost always fixed by rebooting. On Vista systems, you need to manually install a few updates, or Windows Update will get stuck at "Checking for Updates..." But once the updates are installed, Windows Update works just fine. Not that I use Vista too much these days.

I also like to get the latest updates as soon as possible, even if there is the possibility of creating a problem (although I never had any with Windows 10). I can restore my system within 10 minutes if anything goes wrong, therefore why should I wait? Woody Leonhard is providing a useful service for average users, but I still find him too alarmist...

Software containing these words "booster, cleanup, optimizer, registry, services" require caution. Have an image backup before using these apps.

I updated Windows 7 Cumulative update and Word 2010 update and so far didn't encounter any problems.

I generally install them when they come out, but Woody's advice and settings are prudent for many people. If you want to see problems, and how many people really are having issues with 1903 just take a look on Reddit at the 1903 Megathread (in the Windows 10 subreddit).... :)

Yes, in my view, WU's are at the very least problematic, and some cases, downright harmful. I mean, MS has been known to pull an update, or reissue an update, due to problems among users. My updating plan going forward has evolved into something that is not set in stone, as I am most comfortable with a bit of research, and sometimes the research reveals a vulnerability that appears to need immediate patch attention. In those situations I am more than happy to proceed with timely updating. Otoh, if I begin to see users citing great difficulties, it only feels correct to postpone updating.

I am very happy to report my two 1903 machines installed these updates without issue too.

Three updates installed automatically (MRT, Flash and KB4503327). Then I run the update manually to see if 1903 upgrade is available. Instead of 1903 it installed KB4465065. A reboot was needed. After that again checked for 1903 and still not offered. Waiting :isay:

I've seen other bugs where things seem to disappear from the menus. In my 1903 Pro, as soon as I try to use either of the 2 update deferral settings, they disappear... There is a setting to defer feature updates and also quality updates. They're there on a clean install as long as I don't touch them, but if I actually set a number in either of them, after the next update check, the menu item disappears completely. Bad crazy bug. I have seen one or two other menu items disappear and then appear later too.

There is a write-up of the update deferral issues here:

    https://www.ghacks.net/2019/05/28/windows-10-1903-the-case-of-the-missing-update-deferral-options/

This has happened to one or both of these settings in Pro on at least 4 different clean installs of 1903 over the past few weeks. Really strange...

I just received it on Win 10 1809 and my processor is an AMD Phenom II one.o_O Also, this was an auto update.

Here is the KB ref. article for it: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4465065/kb4465065-intel-microcode-updates . As stated in the article, it should only be installed for specific Intel processors.:gack:

I do recall something like this occurring in the past. Also if the KB is installed on an AMD processor system, it is just ignored. Nonetheless,:doubt::cautious::ouch:
