Darn. That's probably the end of an era. I'm so depressed now.
The rest of the pack simply could not compete with Chrome/Chromium in terms of security and functionality.

Well, I have Firefox on Ubuntu and Safari on macOS. Looks like the Chromebook's going in the rubbish bin!

Brave is always a good alternative to Chrome, it is privacy oriented with all bad Google stuff removed, but with the security and speed of Chromium.

A very small ray of hope at the bottom of that article.

... of a privacy-preserving content filtering system that limits the amount of sensitive browser data shared with third parties. Sounds like instead of 100% they only get 90% now.
With this wording from google I wouldn't expect much. If the cared about privacy-preserving instead of money the wouldn't have thought about ad blocking restrictions in the first place.

Oddly, over the past couple of months I've been steadily moving away from a reliance on Chrome on Ubuntu and Mac. I'd been using Chrome a fair bit because I can sync it across devices and platforms.

Firefox is the default browser on Ubuntu and I've customised it nicely over several weeks, I also have it on macOS. I've set up Safari on my iMac as I like it and been experimenting with adblocking. There are several solutions on macOS but I've settled on a combination of ABP and Ghostery Lite in Safari, it works quite well.

I think any chance that I'd now buy a better Chromebook have been torpedoed by the U-Boat of Google corporate greed.

This is definitely a case of the empire strikes back. Where's Obi Wan when you need him?

I've been using Firefox for a dozen years. Things like this will ensure that it stays that way.

Many security conscious people will change browsers or adopt external filtering such as Adguard or a filtering DNS Server. I don't believe for moment the amount of people that will switch browsers or adopt other solutions will be big enough to register as a blip on Google's radar.

Business is business, business is war, loser obviously complains, winners dictate the rule. Nothing surprising.

Hello once again Firefox-GoodBye Vivaldi (won't miss the slow loadings anyway)

To coin another member's phrase-Google sux and it's trashing of websites will one day crash back on their own heads.

Crap because you are at the other end of the stick, if you were Google' CEO, you would say it is genius.

OK, any thoughts on a non-Blink/Chromium based browser, with a decent adblocker, that runs on Linux and isn't Firefox?
