Sophos tells users to roll back Microsoft's Patch Tuesday run if they want PC to boot

"Brit security software slinger Sophos has advised its customers to uninstall Microsoft's most recent Patch Tuesday run – the same patches that protect servers against the latest Intel cockups.

In an advisory note published over the weekend, Sophos admitted the latest batch of Windows updates are causing the machines of some people using its AV wares to hang on boot, getting stuck while displaying the line "Configuring 30%".

'We have currently only identified the issue on some customers running Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2,' added the company..."

Bork Tuesday patches causing problems? Whatever next?

 

Tuesday patches causes problems for a handful of users so lets take drastic actions and panic the world.

 

No problems here. Win7x64.
Their software is the problem.

 

Sounds like Mickey didn't do their homework to me, more like.

 

Microsoft serves, the third parties have to react.
That's how it ever was.
BTW: VmWare is also affected.

 

I thought at one time MS would test any patches for compatibilities before releasing them. It's not like they can't afford it. Bork Tuesday patches were a big reason why I ditched Windows for Unix.

 

You can't expect them to test them with every antivirus. That would take a lot of time considering the huge amount of antiviruses there are. Considering that according to the article, the same thing happened with Sophos in April, then just maybe, the blame should directed at Sophos and not Microsoft.

I don't use Sophos and I never have issues with updates.

 

You could expect them to test them with the most popular AV's though, and Sophos is fairly popular. At one time it was bundled a lot in the UK and used a lot in education. I don't use Sophos and for a year I never had any problems with MS updates. Primarily because I couldn't update. I certainly don't have MS updating problems now.

 

Gee whiz. It's amazing how some folks just love to blame Microsoft for everything.

Whoops! The garbage truck just spilled garbage in the street. Clearly Microsoft's to blame!

Its way past time to get with the times folks. Mainstream support for Windows 7 ended over 4 1/2 years ago! And get ready. All support ends this next January.
