Private Search Engines - The Ultimate Guide (2019) recently updated by Sven Taylor elects Startpage as the best private search engine. https://restoreprivacy.com/private-search-engine/ With New Moon 28 I choose to save my personal settings without a cookie. I set the Homepage in New Moon via the Obfuscated URL With I.E.8 it is not possible to use Startpage,I use DuckDuckGo. Which Search Engine do you prefer?
Nice review. I use Startpage and mostly like it's results. If for any reason results are not what I want, I switch to Google.
I've noticed Startpage has dropped support for older browsers as well. It still works for the last FF browser for XP. Anyone else getting these? For me it mainly seems to happen when I browse to a page using the anonymous option and then clicking on an internal link on that page -
Anonymous View may be incompatible with some extensions. For example Scriptsafe. I had to whitelist in fingerprint protections: browse.startpage.com
New Moon My Homepage is Startpage. My efault Search Engine is Ecosia I.E.8 My homepage is Qwant Lite Do any members of Wilders know of a method to add Private Search Engines to Internet Explorer? I only know this tool but I don't know how to use it: http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/searchbuilder.asp
Thanks a lot Stapp but it's not good. In general, even with I.E.11 it is not possible to add a private search engine such as DuckDuckGo. But it would be interesting to do it. The "Creating Your Own Search Provider" part of the guide that is very similar to my link is absent. I tried to create a custom search engine with DuckDuckgo but then it doesn't install.
The use of a Search Engine other than the homepage is due to the search method highlighted in the image: As you can see in the following image, returns a default result of my Country: Does anyone know a simple and immediate way to do the same with Startpage or DuckDuckGo? TH.
you need to allow 1st party cookies for that. then, for ddg, go to settings and set "region" to italy. edit: and you must keep that ddg cookie in order to keep using it; but if you don't keep cookies between sessions, you must visit ddg homepage to set the required cookie before every first context menu search in every browsing session
I prefer to delete cookies when I exit the browser. With your method, I should also create an exception in CCleaner. Settings less restrictive for privacy. Better then to use as Search Engines "Ecosia" or "Qwant".
not sure if it works with context menu search but take a look at this and see if it works for you: https://help.duckduckgo.com/duckduckgo-help-pages/settings/save/
TH. It's great info for non-English users. It works for the homepage, not for the contextual menu when you close/reopen the browser.
I'm using searx.me. It protects my privacy, and you can activate plenty of search engines, including Google, Bing, Duckduckgo, Startpage etc. EDIT: And yes, Google doesn't always work (as that article says) - but the Startpage results are still available. So what?
Entering a custom URL can reduce privacy. The websites could draw some important info. I prefer Startpage with its obfuscated URL, compared to DuckDuckGo with non-obfuscated URL
