Did not have luck with Acronis software

A few years ago my windows restoration with Acronis was a disaster on windows 10
From that time on I have problem trusting backup sotftwares . Need some recommendation
even though I see some already here but any update?

I can recommend Macrium Reflect. Used it few times to restore my system, with no problems. Can't tell for others since I didn't use them.

No, I'm using a paid one. But free is as good as paid it just lacks some features.

 

Well I can't afford the paid one . What feature you mostly use from the paid one and you think it is a must?

 

IDK if it's a must, but I like to schedule backups and to create Incremental updates once a day (with free version you can only create Differentials). THat's main reason why I decided to go with Paid. On other computer I use free version and create differential backups now and then.
There are other features included only in paid version, some other member might explain it more in detail.

 

OK I downloaded it and man it is so complicated ! Life is so hard I have to spend the rest of my life learning how to use it ! I just one to backup one a month and that is all . Can I still use my default windows image backup while this is installed and keep investigating ? Also I noticed after installing that when I boot my windows some options are appearing even before windoews booting @%$@#@^

You can still use your default image backup.

You probably added boot menu option. You can remove it following this tutorial: https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW72/Adding a boot menu option for Reflect recovery Just select Remove Boot menu in step 2.

I don't know about you guys, but I go straight to Step 3, and that's it, so I have all my partitions as they were before.

 

What do you mean by step 3? What link?

Just open up Reflect and click "Image This Disk", on your operating system drive. Then follow the few simple steps afterwards. Done. Your drive, including all partitions will be imaged.

I've long been using Iperius Backup but Macrium also works as expected - both free and paid.

 

That's exactly been my own method when doing a whole disk backup with Macrium. It just works, simple and image complete.

 

Another vote for Macrium, it is reliable. I have now the paid version which means I can perform incremental backups and delta restores, average time for an incremental is 3-4 minutes and delta restores under 5 minutes, which means I can use it almost as a time machine...

 

@Osaban-Have you ever tried Acronis? If so was it long ago or recently.

And to help keep this topic on the up and up-I ONCE tried it and experience so many interruptions from it completing something as simple as a plain backup-That being said I haven't looked at it even to sample it's improvements these days compared to say over a year ago.

 

Acronis true image 8 was my first imaging system I think back in 2005-2006, it worked fine but was very slow compared to current solutions. I also have 2 licenses of Storagecraft ShadowProtect with Vista and Win XP, which is great but too expensive. What I like about Macrium's business model is their free version for home users, it is almost as good as the paid one which I finally bought to support the company as well...

 

Acronis 8 was also my first imaging software. I bought other versions until 2010. But I find that the latest versions are heavy and slower than the previous. Actually I use Acronis 2010 for his feature " Try and Decide ".

 

On my Win7-64 computer (no UEFI, no GPT) I am still very happy with True Image 11 from 2007. The only thing to know is that the Linux rescue media created with this version does not support AHCI, so it cannot be used for current computers. The same goes if you try to do a system restore from inside Windows. You need to use later rescue media with AHCI support, either Linux-based or WinPE-based.

 

Me too . 64 bit, MBR partitions. ATI version 11 on windows 7 images windows 7 and 10 partitions and system reserved.
For recovery of either Windows I used ATI 2016 rescue disk. Though v11 works fine from Windows but I'd rather restore when windows isn't running. And the old v11 rescue disk has no USB3 support so it's slooooow.
Using ATI 2016 rescue for imaging works fine but I hate the GUI, and have some trouble validating unless I delay validation 15-30 minutes after making an image.
I don't use 2016 in Windows at all because their redesigned GUI annoys me and I don't want to deal with any scheduling databases.

OT: I also use AOMEI. It has one fault - no way to exclude files such as pagefile.sys or windows.old. But it works fine otherwise.

 

Sorry I have to correct myself about what I said about AHCI support of the Linux TrueImage 11 rescue CD. This rescue CD does support AHCI. I mixed it up with my other BartPE based rescue CD, and since this one is based on WinXP it does not have AHCI drivers by default.

Still this TI11 Linux rescue CD is not too useable due to its slowness. Judging by the recovery speed I even believe that it only supports USB1. When I used a current Linux based rescue CD and had the external drive plugged into a USB2 port the recovery speed was way higher than with the old TI11 rescue CD.

I generally agree that AOMEI is a very capable imaging software, and I do like the GUI. It has been a while since I have used it, but are you sure that it includes the page file and the hibernation file in its images? IIRC it skipped these files automatically (but I could be wrong). What I did not like about AOMEI was that when doing incrementals it was terribly slow. An incremental backup was only slightly faster than a full backup. And since I do lots of incrementals I figured that I was better off with the old Acronis TrueImage.
