Not here. Bit concerned about my previously enabled add-ons being gone, not just disabled. May have to restore a previous image, then apply 66.0.4 ..., RC or preferably release when available. Will wait for now.
It did take a few minutes to restore (only 3 for me: NoScript, AdBlock+ and HTTPS Everywhere). Be aware that the https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/candidates/ page shows a 404 Not Found page on 66.0.4. Mozilla must still be working on it, thus pulled it.
Yes, they pulled it out. The fix "Allow Firefox to install and run studies" is working but the addons still cannot be updated. https://i.imgur.com/Gw9uIa0.png Well, it is still better than nothing.
workaround for ff portable users until ff portable v66.0.4 is released: go to your profile folder, open "extensions.json" with notepad, replace all "signedState" values (-1) with "2" and "appDisabled" values (true) with "false", save it, right click on it and make the file read-only, restart ff portable, disable all your add-ons and re-enable them.
If HTTPS Everywhere is your only issue, I had the same problem before this fiasco, and had to install the new version 2019.5.2.1, then remove the old one. I thought the problem was not being able to update due to the new GUI.
Thanks. the Studies method worked on one laptop now, but not my main one (similar add-ons). Will just need to be patient. Will get it sorted.
paulderdash, you're welcome! At least you have one working. Yes, I'm sure Mozilla is scrambling to fix this unfortunate issue.
@paulderdash i don't have ff installed on my systems. could you try this workaround i posted and see if it works for the installed version too? https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/firefox-addons.396377/page-14#post-2825215
For some reason if I enable "Studies", next time I open FF "Studies" is disabled again. Guess I'll have to wait for .04.
Or Waterfox. Even Mozilla recommends Waterfox, for those who absolutely need legacy extensions. The update https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/05/04/update-regarding-add-ons-in-firefox/ doesn't cover ESR versions
Setting the xpinstall.signatures.required to false in about:config worked in Linux. uBlock Origin was enabled. You'll see a message stating uBlock Origin could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution. (Add-ons Manager) Haven't tested though with updating. NOTE: This is a slight security risk and you should re-enable once the certificate issue is fixed. NOTE: Have Firefox Data Collection and Use disabled.
After allowing Firefox to run and install Studies. Restarted, rebooted still fubared. So I installed a fresh copy of FF over the old one & now my addons are working. I apologize to FF for now. Let's see when the deadline hits next month.
Apparently, even after enabling Studies, it could take some hours before the hotfix reaches a particular machine: https://twitter.com/mozamo/status/1124735972027973632 If one sees "hotfix-reset-xpi-verification-timestamp-1548973" in about:studies, it means the hotfix is activated.
On my main laptop, still 'fubared', with 1548973, even after a fresh install (of 66.0.3). Hope 66.0.4 will fix it, otherwise will have to go to backed up profiles, images, whatever.
