Thanks. Well, I thought the exclusion of hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys should have been hard-coded into the snapshot exe file. Anyway, I think maybe the developer should be alerted for this potential bug.

    I've already made a new Windows 10 v1903 WinPE UFD/ISO and CD.

Using bare WinPE media, I am presented with a command prompt just like below from an ADK article, and I didn't have access to much from there.

I know how to navigate and everything from the Command Prompt, but it wasn't giving me much access on the C: drive. Wouldn't a simple Windows 10 Rescue media (similar to this) be easier? It enables you to browse? Or have I missed something with the WinPE media? Unless I make snapshot64.exe more accessible on my D: drive which would be a safer and better option, of course.

Ran across this jewel some months ago for the purpose of keeping an alternative Rescue Media that serves Reflect as well as DS and maybe some others. With a little ingenuity and effort it's fairly editable to offer a user a whole variety of utilities we depend on most, reliable partioning, imaging/restores and I found it the quickest loading of all my Rescue Media and have performed restores from it with DS and Reflect with perfect results. If so inclined I think it's worth a look. MajorGeeks offers it as a constructive useful Win 10 PE for Windows straight out of the box ISO all ready to apply to any thumb drive with rufus.

I've put a copy of snapshot64.exe in a sub-folder of my Snapshot images on my D: Drive.

    Snapshot_WinPE_2.jpg

And I guess you would want to keep, "Restore the partition structure selected".

Perfect. Now click Browse to find your image. Then select the HD. Don't select the HD first.

I've got a Sergei Strelec Boot Disk ISO sitting on my hard drive. I've never used it though.

Thanks. Not much info about a56.
I have used Active@ Boot Disk a long time ago.

Actually, in hindsight, it's better to keep a copy of your Snaphot executable on your backup drive.

One thing that I have trouble with on some (or maybe many) Desktop computers is that I cannot get bootable UFD to boot from the front USB ports.
I have tried messing with BIOS settings, but I usually end up having to stick in a rear port. No big problem. Just an inconvenience, escpecially when I have no spare rear USB ports.

When I make a TBWinRE I add the A56 folder. A56 shows up in the loader Menu at the left of the screen. Put this in your TBLauncher.ini.

    [Menu_Item_11]
    Name=A56x64
    Path=%ProgramFiles%\A56x64\A56.exe
    WorkingDir=
    Parameters=
    Icon=0

Thanks for mention. It's my go-to actually on Windows 8.1 whenever I do a restore anymore. Just plain works-that is as long as a user first remembers to turn off Secure Boot in BIOS so no security restrictions hamper initializing it.

    A56 is a file manager.
I am sure that I have encountered some nice standalone file managers over the years that I could sit on my backup drive. Explorer++ comes to mind.

That's right. There are lots of portable file managers but few work in a WinPE. A56 does. A43 doesn't.

Edit... I just checked Explorer++. It works in a WinPE and looks good.

    How did you check?
FreeCommander XE also supposed to. It's not standalone, but it's fully portable.

It has a selection but uses a Windows explorer where you can see all your listed drives and such where you easily browse folders & files as a plain Windows Explorer GUI.

There's more, i'll load it up and post others I find on it. This Strelec starts up very fast - on my 8 systems anyway-full GUI desktop and tons of programs.

The version I use which may or may not be the latest sports for File Managers this: (Im looking at them right now)
    Total Commander
    MSDaRT Explorer
    Far Manager 3.0
    Runtime Captain Neo 7.0
    Linux Reader 3.0

All of which I never use (or haven't yet) because the PE's Explorer runs exactly the same as Windows Explorer. By the way-I forgotten-the O/S I just tested Strelec on is Windows 10. Completely forgot I still have a Win 10 in my collection. Likely the only one i'll use. All others are Windows 8.1-my preferred production system.

When I get around to it I like to add Explorer++ and A56 maybe just to have a few extra file managers to compare their abilities in such a rescue environment as Strelec.

I've done picture perfect restore with the included Imagers Macrium and Drive Snapshot although updated neither to this tiny thumb drive. And it is tiny. Little cheap SanDisk plastic brand the size of half a stick of chewing gum.

    Hope that helps.

I know that I will be getting into a whole new can of worms when deciding to edit/modify it properly with additions in order to accurately fit all the necessary dependencies that it takes to make it work right. It's been a long time since I dissected it enough to fill in more apps that I'd like to improve it with, but that also requires breaking it apart in a program made to reveal the Media's contents to extract and build/replace them to newer versions. They have a Help Guide on that fortunately. http://sergeistrelec.ru/faq.html

If you don't have a dedicated WinPE with a File Manager, use a Win10 UFD.

Boot from your Win 10 UFD
    Next
On the Install now window, click Repair your computer
    Troubleshoot
    System Image Recovery
    Windows 10
If you have a Re-image Your Computer Window, click Cancel
    Select a system image window
    Next
    Advanced
    Install a Driver
click OK on Add Drivers (but drag the Add Drivers window to the very top left corner of your monitor before clicking OK)
plug in a USB flash drive containing snapshot64.exe. You can also use snapshot64.exe on a HD partition.
    click This PC
(drive letters may be different from booted Win 10 )
Navigate to snapshot64 (extensions aren't shown) on the flash drive or HD partition. Right click snapshot64 (the Application, file extensions aren't shown) and choose Open.
click Cancel on the "Open" window
click Cancel on the "Add Drivers" window
Drag the "Re-image your Computer" window to the bottom of your monitor so the Drive Snapshot window is in full view

Drive Snapshot is ready to use.

Edit.... You don't need a second UFD. You can put snapshot64.exe in the root of the Win10 UFD.

Brian, I think that's the Windows 10 repair media. I mentioned it earlier. I also have that too.
It's similar to this info starting at the third image.

Thanks EASTER. That will be good too.
But I was referring to my raw WinPE media that I made.

Hadron, that link doesn't finish the steps.

I used a full Win10 UFD. A few minutes ago.

Edit... A Command Window isn't used.
