Last night I updated my W7 (KB4493472), no issue. I guess the people having issues with this updates are people using antiviruses. What a mess. I rebooted a few times, all seemed well. No slowdown, or anything that looks bad, or new Event log warnings or errors.

Well my (8th Gen Intel) Win 10 Home v1803 finally showed v1809 Feature Update after Checking for Updates today.

But it failed with a 0xc1420121. Even after Windows Update Troubleshooter, sfc /scannow or a clean boot. And even after downloading and installing MCT with clean boot - it simply fails.
Similar to this issue (though my machine was Win 10 from the outset): https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ing-with/2437361c-a544-414c-8839-6bc8955e4268

I think I will just restore an image, not Check for Updates, and wait for the anticipated May Feature Update. I really would prefer to avoid a clean install.

Edit: That didn't work, it's already busy downloading again.
Set to metered connection, rebooted and it says I'm up to date now ... hopefully it stays like that.

Now shows 'Pending download '... when you are not using a metered connection ...'.

Set metered connection off again, and hidden 1809 with wushowhide.diagcab.

Hope 19H1 doesn't have the same 0xc1420121 problem.

Edit: Updated my post #5128. This is my newest laptop, a fully updated 8th gen Intel Dell XPS 13. WTF.

My 8700k desktop fails with 1809, I'm glad I have dual boot with the working past, 1709 and the dysfunctional future 1803, unable to advance.

    Paul,

I'm not clear on what you did with the MCT. Did you use it to download an ISO and then use Rufus to create a USB flash drive? This seems to be a reliable method to upgrade Win10. At least it never fails for me.

No I used the 'Upgrade this PC' option. I will try the ISO option next.

Excuse my ignorance, but could you confirm that would that preserve my installed programs, etc., or is it like a clean install?

Edit: And why is craeting a USB with Rufus preferable to e.g. right clicking ISO and mounting. then setup.exe ...

you'll have the option to keep your personal files during setup. using rufus is like using cold imaging, safer & more reliable.

I have said this multiple times, a lot of Win 10 1809 Feature Upgrade issues have been traced back to Win 10 1803 Virtualization setting. If it is enabled in 1803, it needs to be disabled in the BIOS/UEFI and then attempt to perform the 1809 Upgrade. I did the same and also performed an in-place 1803 via .iso upgrade to 1809. It was w/o a doubt the smoothest and fastest Win 10 upgrade I have ever performed/

I would skip updating to 1809 at this point with 1903 coming within the next month. Especially if you are having trouble doing so.

    Paul,

All your apps and data will be preserved. You need at least 15 GB of Free Space in your Win10 partition before you commence the upgrade.
When I first upgraded from Win8 to Win10, all methods failed (including from an ISO), except when upgrading from a UFD. All methods work for me now but upgrading from a UFD is still my primary method.

You don't boot the UFD. The upgrade is done in Windows. Double click setup.exe.

Edit...We have multiple computers so the one download and UFD can upgrade all our machines.

    Not enabled here ...
... so I will try this in the next couple of days ...
... or maybe not! :D. Though I suspect I could have the same problem with 1903 o_O ...

What about it? I installed it on last patch Tues. and having no problems with it. Of course, I am not using one of the AVs having issues with it.

If you still can't install the 1809 upgrade via 1803 in-place upgrade method, I would say you're going to have to do a full install of 1809 and reinstall all your app software plus restore your prior backed up data files.

As far as upgrading to 1903, I anticipate that will be worse than the 1809 Feature Upgrade. It seems each new upgrade is worse than the previous when it comes to delivery via Win Updates. Also lest anyone forgets, Microsoft said when they introduced Win 10 that there will come a time when older hardware just won't be compatible with it anymore.

I am using latest EIS ver. with no issue w/KB4493509. As far as the invalid Ethernet packet IDS issue @Minimalist mentioned, I was having an issue with it prior to installation of KB4493509. So that issue is not related to it.

EES 7.x and EIS/ESS 12.x internally feature-wise are pretty much the same product. In other words; Realtime scanning and related options, firewall, HIPS, web scanner, etc. essentially work the same.

One of my laptops running build 1903 is 13 years old. I did not have to do a clean install, I upgraded to 1903 with Windows Update. So for now, it seems that old hardware shouldn't be too much of an issue.
